PhD position
The Faculty of Medicine, Department of Global Public Health and Primary Care, is offering a full-time PhD-position for a duration of three (3) years. The project initiation and at least the first 6 months of the employment period shall take place in Norway.
The position is part of the project “Optimizing the implementation and scale-up of WHO treatment decisions for children with pulmonary tuberculosis in Sub-saharan Africa-OPTIC-TB, funded by the University of Bergen. The project is a cluster randomized controlled trial being implemented in Tanzania, Uganda and DR Congo from 2024 to 2028. More information about the project can be found here
About the project/work tasks:
Develop or adapt already developed data collection tools for costing and economic evaluations for use in Tanzania, Uganda and DR Congo
Participate in training and orienting research assistants on how to use the tools followed by pre-testing in the study sites
Oversee the collection of cost data related to TB management from the provider and patient perspectives
Oversee the collection of health-related quality of life data
Develop dynamic Markov models for economic evaluations and budget impact analyses
Analyze the collected data, write manuscripts and publish papers in international peer reviewed journals
Disseminate cost, cost-effectiveness, budget impact and equity analyses findings in conferences, seminars and other forums
Participate in meetings and other activities being undertaken by the consortium
Qualifications and personal qualities:
The applicant must possess a Master`s degree or an equivalent in Health economic
Experience from relevant research projects will be considered as positive
The candidate should demonstrate the ability to work independently and in a structured manner, while also being capable of effective collaboration with others
The applicant must exhibit both the ability and motivation to undertake a PhD project

The selected candidate will be required to enroll in the University of Bergen’s approved PhD programme, aiming to complete the degree within three years. Admission to the organized research training (PhD program) at the Faculty is essential for this position. Application for admission to the PhD programme, including a project plan outline for the training plan, must be submitted no later than three months after the date of commencement

PhD-positions are fixed-term appointments. Candidates cannot be employed in a PhD position for more than one fixed-term period at the same institution, nor have held a similar position at any institution within the region.

Salary NOK 540 500 (code 1017, pay grade 55) in the state salary scale. For applicants with at least one year of employment in a position as a General Practitioner or Dentist, salary NOK 557 100 (code 1017, pay grade 57). Medical specialist starts on salary NOK 575 400 (code 1017, pay grade 59)
