The Institute of Clinical Medicine (Klinmed) is one of three institutes under the Faculty. Klinmed is responsible for the Faculty's educational and research activities at Oslo University Hospital and Akershus University Hospital. With about 900 employees spread over approximately 425 man-labour years, Klinmed is the university's largest institute. Our activities follow the clinical activity at the hospitals and are spread across a number of geographical areas.
About the position
We are seeking a highly skilled, dedicated and research-oriented candidate for a temporary position as Senior Engineer (SKO 1181) in bioimage processing at the Institute of Clinical Medicine.
The position is funded by the IT Department at the University of Oslo, through the IT-Hub project “BioImage Processing Hub (BIP-Hub)”, a network supporting bioimaging core facilities at the University of Oslo.
The main focus of the Senior Engineer is to guide, teach and assist researchers at the different imaging nodes (detailed above) with tasks and challenges related to analyses, processing, and visualization of complex multidimensional imaging data.
The Senior Engineer will collaborate with current node-associated imaging experts as well as with a USIT System Engineer who will be responsible for advanced image processing infrastructure (local and remote), maintenance of image processing software packages and licenses.
Finally, the Senior Engineer will organize and run image processing teaching sessions and workshops for node users.
The position is available immediately.
End-date for the project is 30.06.2027.
Responsibilities
Set up bioimaging pipelines together with users.
Perform analysis of multidimensional image data (time lapse, z-stack).
Extract qualitative and quantitative information from images (e.g. colocalization of 2-3 fluorophores).
Handle and perform 3D analysis of large image and data volumes.
Set up on-the-fly bioimage processing workflows for microscopy.
Establish a centralized bioimage analysis repository.
Organize targeted workshops, and guide people to use open-source solutions.
Qualifications
Qualification requirements
Relevant education from a university or university college at a minimum level equivalent to a master's degree, in cell biology, information technology, optics, or related fields.
Extensive relevant professional experience and specialized competence a high level adapted to the functions of the position are prerequisites.
Extensive experience with Bioimage processing.
Possess coding experience with image processing applications.
Experience with various open-source software for image processing (i.e. Napari, ImageJ).
Experience with biological microscopes and optics, as well as image acquisition pipelines.
Experience with statistical analyses.
Preferred selection criteria
Prior experience with working in a bioscience research environment.
Experience with statistical computation, modeling and simulations.
Good communication skills in working with end users, and documented teaching skills (workshops, one-on-one).
Understanding of IT-infrastructure for optimal communication with the USIT System Engineer.
PhD in cell biology, information technology, optics, or related fields.
Personal skills
The ideal candidate should be service-minded, with strong collaboration and communication skills.

Salary in position as job Senior Engineer, position code 1181 in salary range NOK from 660 000 to 860 000, depending on competence and experience. From the salary, 2 percent is deducted in statutory contributions to the State Pension Fund.
