The Institute of Basic Medical Sciences overall objective is to promote basic medical knowledge in order to understand normal processes, provide insight into mechanisms that cause illness, and promote good health. The Institute is responsible for teaching in basic medical sciences for the programmes of professional study in medicine and the Master's programme in clinical nutrition. The Institute has more than 300 employees and is located in Domus Medica.

About the position

A permanent position as researcher is available at the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, Department of Molecular Medicine, Division of Biochemistry. The position is associated with the Sekulic lab led by Assoc. Prof. Nikolina Sekulic. The position is externally funded for a duration of four years.

You will work with

The position is open for a researcher to work on the project “Decoding cod centromeres”, with main responsibilities in proteomics, protein purification and immunoprecipitation. We seek a highly motivated individual with an excellent track record and strong experience in using hydrogen/deuterium exchange mass spectrometry (HDX‑MS) for the characterization of biological complexes. The candidate should be able to independently design, perform, and analyze HDX‑MS proteomics experiments. In addition, experience with protein expression in bacteria, yeast, and insect cells, as well as with immunoprecipitation and protein purification techniques, is required. Knowledge of other structural biology techniques (cryo‑EM, X‑ray crystallography, NMR), additional mass spectrometry approaches or confocal microscopy will be considered an advantage. Qualifications

Qualification requirements

• Applicants must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in biochemistry, chemistry, molecular biology or a related area and relevant post-doctoral experience
• Documented experience in use of hydrogen-deuterium mass spectrometry (HDX-MS)
• Hands-on experience with cell cultures, immunoprecipitation, protein expression (bacteria, yeast, insect cells) and purification
• Documented experience with other structural biology techniques (cryoEM, X-ray crystallography, NMR), other proteomic techniques and/or confocal microscopy is seen as an advantage.
• Ability to independently perform experiments, analyze and interpret the results.
• Documented ability to write scientific manuscripts (first/last/corresponding author)
• Excellent written and oral English
