The Department of Education was established in 1938 and is one of three departments at The Faculty of Educational Sciences. The research is based on traditions from both the social and the human sciences, and the department thus accommodates great breadth in topics and perspectives. The department employs approximately 100 people; 49 scientific staff, 35 doctoral and post-doctoral students, and 16 administrative/technical staff. The number of students is approximately 900.
Applicants are invited for a three-year position as Postdoctoral Fellow in Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) quality and children’s language development to be based at the Department of Education, University of Oslo.
The Oslo Early Education Study is based on a researcher–sector partnership to develop, implement, and assess the effects of an intervention aimed at preparing multiethnic ECEC centers to utilize their potential to support children’s language development and collaborate with the parents. This randomized controlled intervention study is financed by the Research Council of Norway for a period of four years from April 2021. Veslemøy Rydland and Ratib Lekhal are the PIs of the project The Oslo Early Education Study (OEES)
The Postdoctoral Fellow is expected to collaborate with the project research group in the development, implementation and evaluation of the intervention. The assessment of effects will focus on the quality of caretaker–child interactions (in centers and at home) and child outcomes. In our assessment of applicants, we will emphasize experience and competency in quantitative methodology. We welcome applicants who are able to demonstrate motivation and qualifications to participate in the different stages of research from the data collection to the dissemination of research findings.
More about the position
The appointment is a full time position for a period of up to three years, 10% of which is devoted to required duties, usually in the form of teaching activities.
Depending on the qualifications of the candidate, the period may be extended to four years, 25 % of which is devoted to required duties, usually in the form of teaching activities at the department. Postdoctoral fellows who are appointed for a period of four years are expected to acquire basic pedagogical competency in the course of their fellowship period within the duty component.
The main purpose of the fellowship is to qualify researchers for work in higher academic positions within their disciplines.

- Applicants must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in Education. Doctoral dissertation must be submitted for evaluation by the closing date. Appointment is dependent on the public defence of the doctoral thesis being approved.
- Fluent oral and written communication skills in English and a Scandinavian language (Norwegian, Swedish og Danish).
