A permanent position as Senior Consultant at the unit of Clinical Immunology and Infectious Diseases is available. The unit is part of Department of Rheumatology, Dermatology and Infectious Diseases, Division of Surgery, Inflammatory Medicine and Transplantation, Oslo University Hospital. The position is affiliated with a part time position as Adjunct Professor SKO 8013 /Associate Professor SKO 1011 (20 % position) in Medicine (Primary and secondary immunodeficiency disorders) at the Institute of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo (UiO). It is required that the position holder attends to both positions.

Regarding the full-time clinical position at OUH:

The main position is as senior consultant in the department’s Unit of Clinical Immunology and Infectious Diseases. The Unit has four senior consultant positions and consists of a patient ward with 13 beds (shared with rheumatology) and an outpatient clinic. The patient focus is (i) Infectious disorders, with a particular emphasis on immunocompromised patients; (ii) Elucidation and treatment of patients with immunodeficiency, with a particular emphasis on primary immunodeficiency disorders; (iii) Patients with complex inflammatory systemic disorders of diverse etiology. The Unit also has a close collaboration with the Intensive Care Unit at the hospital as well as several other Departments including Department of hematology, Unit of gastroenterology and Department of Respiratory Medicine, in managing patients with severe infectious diseases at the Rikshospitalet campus. The unit is using new technology in the diagnosis of immunodfiency, infectious and inflammatory disease including advanced flow cytometry and genetics/genomics.

The research activity of the unit is closely linked with the Research Institute of Internal Medicine. The holder of the position is expected to lead research activity related immunodeficiency disorders and diseases caused by immune dysfunction and associated inflammatory complications at the Institute, based on a translational approach combining relevant clinical and experimental methodologies.

Short description of the position’s work tasks

- Contribute to routine clinical activities at the unit, and participate in all aspects of treatment and follow-up of relevant patient groups.

- Contribute to improve the management of the relevant patient groups with the ambition to lift the unit to a high international level, in particular in the handling of primary immunodeficiencies.

- Participate in the on-call system of the unit.

- Contribute to maintain and develop a highly qualified research environment at the Research Institute for Internal Medicine.

- Contribute to training of residents and quality improvement activities.

Qualification requirements

- The applicant must possess a Norwegian specialist accreditation in infectious diseases.

- The applicant should have extensive experience with the patient groups described above.

- The applicant must have relevant research experience and a strong motivation to contribute to the ongoing and new translational research activities based on the relevant patient populations, with these activities being linked to the Research Institute of Internal Medicine.

- Documented language skills in Norwegian or a compatible Scandinavian language is required. Applicants must be able to teach and communicate with patients in Norwegian, Swedish or Danish.
