Temporary position as Associate Professor of Medicine (Anatomy)

The Institute of Basic Medical Sciences overall objective is to promote basic medical knowledge in order to understand normal processes, provide insight into mechanisms that cause illness, and promote good health. The Institute is responsible for teaching in basic medical sciences for the programmes of professional study in medicine and the Master's programme in clinical nutrition. The Institute has more than 300 employees and is located in Domus Medica.
A temporary (substitute) position is available at the Department of Molecular Medicine for an Associate Professor of Medicine in the subject area of Anatomy. The employment period is for ~2.5 years up to end of June, 2023.
The Department consists of 28 research groups across three divisions (Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology) and brings together wide expertise aiming to understand key biological and pathological processes from cellular to systems levels. The position is linked to the Division of Anatomy, which consists of nine research groups working on a broad range of topics related to immunology and neuroscience using research techniques ranging from molecular biology and transgenic animal models to functional imaging and computer modelling. The successful candidate will participate in teaching and assessment at all levels, and participate in administrative duties in accordance with the needs of the Department of Molecular Medicine. We expect the candidate to contribute with research activities of relevance for prioritized research domains at the Department. The Division of Anatomy is responsible for teaching all aspects of human anatomy to students in the professional training programs of medicine (majority), nutrition and dentistry, and to students in the PhD and medical research training programs at the Faculty of Medicine. Teaching consists of formal lectures, tuition of learning groups, and practical courses. The latter comprises both histology (microscopy) and macroscopic anatomy (dissection of human bodies and clinical anatomical examination of live models). Candidates must therefore document in their application, and demonstrate during the evaluation process, that they are both qualified and motivated to engage in all aspects of anatomy teaching to these student groups.

For Associate Professor:
- PhD or equivalent academic qualifications with a specialization in biomedical science of thematic relevance for research at the Department of Molecular Medicine
- Documented pedagogical skills
- Fluent oral and written communication skills in a Scandinavian language and English
The following qualifications will count in the assessment of the applicants:
An MD degree is clearly preferable because of the teaching obligations, but we will also consider candidates who can convincingly demonstrate ability and motivation to teach clinically relevant anatomy from the molecular to the macroscopic level. MDs will be encouraged to continue clinical work.
The successful applicant will have a clear plan for how he / she will contribute with excellent anatomy teaching and a description on how his / her research will complement and synergize with ongoing research (methodologically or thematically) in the Division and the Department.
We are particularly interested in recruiting candidates at an early phase of their career and who have demonstrated promising research results and ability to independently attract research funding.
