The Institute of Clinical Medicine (Klinmed) is one of three institutes under the Faculty. Klinmed is responsible for the Faculty's educational and research activities at Oslo University Hospital and Akershus University Hospital. With about 800 employees spread over approximately 425 man-labour years, Klinmed is the university's largest institute. Our activities follow the clinical activity at the hospitals and are spread across a number of geographical areas.

Oslo University Hospital (OUH) is Norway’s largest hospital with over 20 000 employees and a budget of 20 billion NOK. It is a local hospital for parts of Oslo's population. It has a regional function for the inhabitants in the South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority, and it also has a large number of national functions. The Hospital is responsible for the majority of medical research and education of health personnel in Norway.

A permanent position as Senior Consultant in Neurology is available at the Department of Neurology, Oslo University Hospital within the section of Neurology at Rikshospitalet. The position is affiliated with a part-time position as Professor II SKO 9301 /Associate Professor SKO 1011 (20 % position) in Neurology at the Institute of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo (UiO). It is required that the position holder attends to both positions. Teaching and clinical activities may be scheduled within the sections of Department of Neurology both at Rikshospitalet and Ullevål and other locations.

About the position

The Institute of Clinical Medicine has a vacant position as Professor II /Associate Professor (20 % position) of Medicine, (Neurology) .

The part-time academic position (20%) is combined with a full-time Senior Consultant position at the Department of Neurology, Division of of Clinical Neuroscience, Oslo University Hospital. The Division of of Clinical Neuroscience

The Department is responsible for teaching medical students within the neurological disciplines. Research activity in the Department is organized into seven main research groups, all with several sub-groups with focused research projects. The main research areas within stroke and other cerebrovascular diseases, movement and neuromuscular disorders disorders (including neurogenetic and muscular disorders and ALS), epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and neuroinflammatory disorders, pain, neuropsychiatry and cognitive health. We have a special focus both on clinical trials and on translational research in neurology. Our researchers have access to a well-equipped modern molecular lab facility, and there are well-established collaborations with core facilities at the Hospital and at the University.

Regarding the full-time clinical position at OUH

The Department of Neurology is the largest Neurological department in Norway, serving both the Oslo population as well as the South East Health Region, and for some conditions also other health regions. We have in-patient clinics at Ullevål Hospital both for general neurology and acute stroke, and at Rikshospitalet for DBS treatment/movement disorders, cerebrovascular intervention, neuroinflammatory and psychosomatic disorders as well as second opinion evaluations. We have a very large out-patient clinic and a large neurophysiology lab also with activity at Ullevål and Rikshospitalet.

The Senior Consultant is expected to take part in at least one of the clinical teams in the Department of Neurology and is also expected to take part in doing on-calls. Applicants should hold a strong record in a clinical and/or basic neurological field, and the senior consultant position attached to the academic position will have a special role in supporting this topic both clinically and academically.

Qualification requirements – education and relevant personal qualities:

  • Applicants must hold an MD and be a certified specialist in clinical neurology
  • Applicants must have knowledge of and experience from working with neurological patients.
  • We are searching for an ambitious person with strong communication and interpersonal skills, who enjoys a busy working environment, working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Personal suitability and good collaborative skills will be emphasized
