The Faculty of Social Sciences (FSV) educates social scientists and professionals who meet society’s need for innovation in welfare, development and communication. The Faculty offers a PhD in Sociology. The Faculty of Social Sciences has 2 300 students and 200 employees. The professional community is organised into the following divisions: Welfare and Social Relations; History, Culture and Media; Management and Innovation; and International Relations, the Circumpolar North and Environment.
At the Faculty of Social Sciences there is a vacancy for a 100% position at our campus in Levanger, and we are seeking an Associate Professor/Assistant Professor to support the CG Art and Animation programme.
If there are no qualified applicants for the position of associate professor, the faculty may decide to hire at the assistant professor level. In this case, the incumbent will be expected to qualify as associate professor within a period agreed with the dean.
The position is located in Levanger. Nord University faculties are distributed over several campuses, so co-operation between faculty regardless of geographical location is important.
The position may involve tasks at Nord University’s other campuses.
Position description:
Nord University has a strong position within education in the creative field with bachelor degrees within Film and TV Production, CG Art and Animation, Games and Entertainment Technology, Music, Theatre Production and Acting.
Our international media studies are located at our campus in Levanger and are delivered in English. As such, the position requires good oral and written English language skills.
We seek an Associate Professor/Assistant Professor to design and deliver curriculum content and courses to our students and increase our artistic research within the area of CG Art and Animation.
Personal Qualities
Successful candidates will be expected to play a prominent role in the development and delivery of the University’s study programmes, and to undertake high quality artistic research leading to national and international distribution and/or publication. They will also be expected to positively participate in University activities, proactively contribute to the development of the University’s profile in teaching and research, to engage with industry and to undertake administrative, management and leadership duties related to the position.
The profile of the study programs and the research is artistic work. This requires a close cooperation with financing bodies, researchers from other fields, departmental managers and relevant industry. We therefore need a candidate with good communication skills including behaviour and team building qualifications.
Duties and responsibilities
The position entails teaching and supervision on the Bachelor in CG Art and Animation.
The position involves research and development, including dissemination.
Participation in the development of externally funded research projects will be expected, as well as furthering research collaborations with national and international partners.
It is assumed that the appointee will contribute to the development of the academic community in the faculty, together with other colleagues
Qualification requirements
Associate Professor
For employment as an associate professor (research-oriented førsteamanuensis in the Norwegian system) , a Norwegian doctoral degree is required, within the relevant field of study or an equivalent doctoral degree from abroad that is accepted as a Norwegian equivalent, or competence at a similar level documented by academic publication of the same scope and quality.
For appointment as associate professor (teaching-oriented førstelektor in the Norwegian system) the applicant must document comprehensive research and development work which in quality and scope corresponds to the amount of work towards a doctoral degree is required.
Teaching experience from university/college and skills in respect of planning, implementation, evaluation and development of teaching and supervision. Due to an amendment in Regulations from 1 September 2019, Nord University have implemented supplementary provisions on educational competence. Any applicants who are unable to provide documentary proof of adequate professional educational competence when employed must acquire such competence over the course of a two-year period. Assistant Professor
For appointment as assistant professor ((teaching-oriented universitetslektor in the Norwegian system) a master's degree from a university, university college or equivalent is required, within the relevant field.

Good oral and written presentation skills in English and Norwegian (or possibly another Scandinavian language)
For applicants who do not have one of the Scandinavian languages as native speakers, oral and written language skills must be documented.

For employment in a permanent position, applicants must be able to teach in Norwegian/Scandinavian language. Temporary employment for two years can be considered in order to obtain ability to teach in Norwegian/Scandinavian language.

Publications from the last five years will be given special emphasis.
Experience with international research networks and externally funded projects
Experience in teaching and supervision at Bachelor and Master levels from higher education institutions

The position is compensated according to Norwegian government regulations, code 1011 for associate professor, and code 1009 for assistant professor. Salary by agreement.
