The Institute of Clinical Medicine (Klinmed) is one of three institutes under the Faculty. Klinmed is responsible for the Faculty's educational and research activities at Oslo University Hospital and Akershus University Hospital. With about 900 employees spread over approximately 425 man-labour years, Klinmed is the university's largest institute. Our activities follow the clinical activity at the hospitals and are spread across a number of geographical areas.
About the position
The Institute of Clinical Medicine has a vacant position as Professor II or Associate Professor (depending on academic qualifications) at the Institute of Clinical Medicine, Division of Medicine and Laboratory Sciences. The position is fixed-term for five years. The part-time professorship (20 %) is combined with a fulltime (100 %) position as Researcher/Senior Engineer/Senior Physician at Telemark Hospital Trust.
Applicants should hold a strong record in research within clinical molecular biology and should also have ongoing research activity. It is expected that the successful candidate will develop a strong research network within the department and the institution, as well as nationally and internationally, and be able to obtain research funding from external sources. Ability to create an attractive and stimulating academic environment within the department and attract PhD students and postdoctoral fellows is essential. The successful applicant will also participate in teaching of medical students and postgraduate students in clinical molecular biology at the University of Oslo.
Qualification requirements
Hold a position as Researcher/Senior Engineer/Senior physician at Telemark Hospital Trust
Hold an MD or have educational background from molecular biological sciences and clinical medical genetics
Hold a PhD or equivalent qualification in molecular biological sciences
Have relevant experience within research leadership and administration
Have a research profile that will strengthen the research on clinical medical genetics at Telemark Hospital Trust.
Be able to develop synergies between clinical and molecular research at Telemark Hospital Trust and University of Oslo.
Have a track-record for attracting competitive funding.
Have pedagogic education or relevant teaching experience.
Have experience in supervising PhD-candidates.
Have good cooperative and communication skills.
Have strong networking skills and ability to initiate national and international collaborations that has an overall ambition to benefit patients.
Personal skills
Interpersonal skills and the ability to attract competitive funding and create an attractive research environment, plans for research and ambitions relating to the applicant's personal teaching practice will be emphasized.
As a main rule, interviews will be held and references collected. Applicants may also be required to give a trial lecture.
