The Faculty of Technology, Natural Sciences and Maritime Sciences have a vacancy for a temporary post as Researcher in Technical Safety

About the position

The Faculty of Technology, Natural Sciences and Maritime Sciences has a temporary 60 % post as researcher for a period of 5 months from start-up date. This is not a teaching position.

The post relates to the Department of Maritime Operations, and the immediate superior is the Head of the Department. The main place of work is currently campus Vestfold.

Responsibilities and duties

The researcher will be part of the project "Development of an electric-powered car ferry and a roll-on/roll-off power supply system", hosted by Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering (KRISO).

The main aim of the overall project is the development and demonstration of an electric-powered car ferry and a power supply system for islands based on roll-on/roll-off power supply systems, and the researcher will actively participate in the fulfilment of USN's research tasks, which are:

  • Investigation of safety requirement for car ferries and marine batteries in Norway and other countries in Northern Europe.
  • Analysis of marine battery accident case(s)
  • Literature survey on battery electric-powered ferry safety
  • Investigation of modern safety (or hazard) analysis methods

Qualifications

Applicants to the position should have a master's degree (120 ECTS) or equvalent higher education qualifications in saftey engineering, like risk analysis, hazard identification, reliability quantification, accident analysis, and so on.

The applicant must have experience in publishing papers (peer reviewed international journals and/or conferences).

The applicant should be fluent in written and spoken English. Fluency in written Korean is an advantage.

The candidate must have ability to work independently and at the same time have the motivation to share knowledge and take part in team work. Personal suitability for the position will be emphasised.

  • Academic background within safety engineering, like risk analysis, hazard identification, reliability quantification, accident analysis, and so on.
  • Publication in international peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
  • Administrative experience and competence.
  • Ability to obtain external funds.
  • Research management, participation and research projects and research dissemination.
  • Experience from research-driven innovation and industry collaboration.
  • Experience from international research mobility.
  • Other relevant competence.
  • Personal suitability and motivation for the post.

Salary

Researcher (forsker (code 1108): LT 49-68 (NOK 442,300 – 615,900) per year. In special circumstances, higher salaries may be considered.

Salary grade according to seniority and competence. Statutory amounts for the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund will be deducted from salary.
