Research scientists – Geophysics specialists, temporary position
Deadline: 06.10.2019
We are looking for ambitious research scientists to join our geophysics unit of the Petroleum department of SINTEF Industry in a temporary position with immediate start (6-12 months, with possibility for permanent position).
The geophysics team is part of the Exploration and reservoir technology group where we both develop and apply integrated solutions for better subsurface characterisation and monitoring. Our current focus is on CO2 storage applications and O&G. Our aim is to substantially increase our portfolio on applications of geophysical techniques outside O&G and in other relevant fields of endeavour like medical imaging, smart city, near surface geophysics and similar. We also collaborate with other groups of the petroleum department (e.g. rock physics group, rock mechanics laboratories and well integrity groups) and other SINTEF institutes (e.g. SINTEF DIGITAL) in addition to NTNU.
The geophysics team is mainly working with method development for improved geophysical tools for modelling, inversion, uncertainty evaluation, and integration of different methods. To meet the evolving needs of the industry, we are expanding our activities to include machine learning techniques where we anticipate a growing level of activity in this area in the upcoming years
Qualifications:
We are looking for candidates with an MSC or PhD within geophysics, applied mathematics, physics or data science. The ideal candidate should have experience with geophysical tools development, machine learning and/or data analysis/processing techniques. Advanced skills in scientific programming and numerical methods are required.
Experience with the petroleum industry is appreciated.
Excellent communication skills as well as the ability to cooperate are very important. The successful applicant is expected to work in an international environment and think independently while remaining an open-minded team player.
