Research Fellowship in ERC-project “CREATIVE IPR - The History of Intellectual Property Rights in the Creative Industries”

Job description

A Research Fellowship (SKO 1109) in history is available at the Department of Archaeology, Conservation and History (IAKH), University of Oslo. The position is associated with the 5-year Consolidator Grant 818523 “CREATIVE IPR - The History of Intellectual Property Rights in the Creative Industries” funded by the European Research Council and led by Principal Investigator Véronique Pouillard, professor in history at the University of Oslo.

CREATIVE IPR aims to study the history of the intellectual property rights in the creative industries, from the Paris Convention (1883) and the Berne Convention (1886) to the present day, with a particular focus on Europe in the global world. It examines the history of intellectual property rights in the creative industries, with a focus on national and international institutions, and on the creative industries.

The applicant is asked to send in a project proposal that aims to examine the history of the international harmonization of intellectual property rights, specifically in the field of the creative industries. The topic will be situated within the history of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and will focus on the activity of WIPO in Europe after 1967. The project will propose a research statement, relevant sources and methodology, and will outline two scientific articles to be completed during the project’s time.

The person appointed will be affiliated with the Department of Archaeology, Conservation and History (IAKH), University of Oslo, is expected to be based in Oslo for the duration of the fellowship, and to take an active part in all the project’s activities. The academic work is to result in a minimum of two scientific articles published with excellent academic journals in English and with full Open Access. The costs of Open Access will be funded by the project. The researcher will also help project members with the organization of the project’s workshops and final conference.

The appointment is for a period of 22 months.

Start date: no later than 1 October.

Qualification requirements

• A PhD degree or equivalent in history, law, economics, or other disciplines relevant for the project. Applicants with a specialization in the History of Law will be given priority. The PhD degree must have been obtained and the final evaluation must be available by the application deadline.
• The candidate's research project must be closely connected to the CREATIVE IPR project.
• Fluent oral and written communication skills in English.
• Personal suitability and motivation for the position.

In the evaluation of the applications, emphasis will be placed on:

• The project's scientific merit, research-related relevance and innovation.
• The applicant's estimated academic and personal ability to complete the project within the time frame and contribute to CREATIVE IPR.
• Good collaboration skills and an ability to join interdisciplinary academic communities.

Applicants who have recently graduated with excellent results may be given preference.
