The Faculty of Landscape and Society (LANDSAM) has a vacant temporary position as Researcher at Department of International Environment and Development Studies (Noragric). The position is up to one year.

About LANDSAM

LANDSAM has 1300 students and 180 staff. It consists of five sub-units, carrying out research and education in the fields of urban and regional planning, property management and law, landscape architecture, international environment and development studies, and public health.


Noragric
is a leading higher education and research institution with interdisciplinary fields of International Relations, Environment and Development Studies. The department is organized in four research clusters on rights and power in development, climate change adaption and agriculture, conflict and human security, and environmental governance, one Bachelor program, three Master programs, and a PhD program. The Department comprises 35 scientific staff, 30 PhD candidates and 400 students.

We are looking for a highly motivated social scientist researcher to contribute to comparative analysis and publication of research findings from our EU project ‘Community-Based Policing in Post-Conflict Police Reform’ (ICT4COP).

This project (2016-2020) involves researchers from 15 institutions from four continents. The study is interdisciplinary and qualitative, with the participation of a broad set of stakeholders from academia, government and non-government institutions, and civil society, and with field research from East Africa, South Asia, Central America and Eastern Europe.

Main tasks

  • Synthesize and compare research findings and assist in quality assurance of publications for the project’s Work Package 2: Community-Based Policing in Comparison
  • Lead and manage the process to develop a series of e-handbooks on community-based policing
  • Contribute to the development of digital stories of findings, lessons learned and promising practices

Qualifications and skills

Required academic qualifications

  • PhD in development studies, social anthropology, sociology, political science or similar fields
  • Experience in qualitative, field-based methods
  • Documented competence in community-based approaches
  • Documented experience with academic and non-academic dissemination
  • Documented experience in the development of digital audio-visual dissemination products
  • Experience with research in the Global South
  • Fluency in English and Norwegian

Desired academic qualifications

  • Knowledge of community-based policing and/or police reform in post-conflicts areas
  • Relevant field experience for the project
  • Project management skills

Personal qualities and skills

  • A self-starter, able to work independently
  • Strong analytic, creative and communication skills
  • A team player with ability to work effectively with people of different backgrounds in a project group

Remuneration and information

The position is placed in government pay scale position code 1109 Researcher, wage framework 24, within a salary frame of NOK 534 100-631 700 (salary level 61-70), depending on qualifications.

A compulsory contribution of 2 % is made to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
