Seeing an increasing amount of research activities, the Geophysics group of SINTEF Industry wants to strengthen the group with several new researchers / senior researchers. Would you like to join the team?

Within the Geophysics group, the work mainly concerns developing and / or applying methods related to modelling, inversion, uncertainty quantification, and integration of different types of geophysical data for characterization and monitoring of the subsurface. The foremost application area for our research and technology is planning and surveillance of geological CO2 storage. While being among the world leaders on this topic, we also work on and see increasing need and requests for our competence and methods in areas such as energy/hydrogen storage, geothermal energy, seismology, geohazards, mineral mining, and low-emission oil and gas.

The ambition of the Geophysics group is to provide innovative, accurate, and efficient solutions. Our focus has always been on optimal acquisition and use of information in data. We expect that advanced methods for data analytics (AI / ML) and new ways of acquiring data (e.g. fibreoptics and drones) will become increasingly important to meet the industry's needs, and we are interested in strengthening such areas.

The Geophysics group belongs to the department of Applied Geoscience, which combines the expertise in geophysics with geology, reservoir technology, geomechanics, and drilling and well technology. We also have extensive cooperation with other groups in SINTEF as well as with Norwegian and international universities and research institutions. Among our customers are the research council of Norway, EU research programmes, service companies, and energy companies.

We are looking for an ambitious person to work in our group in the field of geophysics. You should possess an MSc or PhD in geophysics, applied mathematics, data/signal processing or other relevant fields. Both newly graduated and experienced candidates may be suitable for the positions based on an overall assessment. Women are especially encouraged to apply!

The following qualifications are deemed especially relevant:

  • experience with geophysical methods, in particular:
    • Full Waveform Inversion (FWI)
    • EM modelling and inversion
    • combined/joint inversion of geophysical data
    • GPR acquisition and processing
  • competence/experience in programming and development of numerical tools (e.g., for modelling of wave propagation, inversion, machine learning, or data processing)
  • interest or relevant experience in research and development in CO2 monitoring or subsurface characterization/monitoring (e.g., for the oil and gas industry)
  • experience in applied research

We are looking for someone who:

  • cooperates well
  • maintains progress and delivers
  • is engaged, curious, and ambitious
  • is self-driven, flexible, and eager to learn
  • communicates well both orally and in writing (English and/or Norwegian)

We offer:

  • exciting work and good cooperation in an international environment under constant development
  • good possibilities for professional and personal development in an organization where responsibility and initiative are highly valued
  • being part of a large institution with possibilities for cross-disciplinary collaboration and a vision to provide solutions for a better society
  • flexible working hours, salary based on qualifications, child day care facilities and good pension and insurance schemes

We are looking forward to receiving your application.

Applications will be assessed continuously.
