SINTEF Ocean is one of the six institutes that make up SINTEF. We conduct research and generate innovation in the field of ocean space for both Norwegian and international industries. Our ambition is to advance Norway’s leading position in the fields of marine engineering and biomarine research. We work closely with the business sector and the public authorities to develop tomorrow’s sustainable solutions for exploitation of the oceans. The department and research group: The research group Climate and Sustainability is a newly formed group at SINTEF Ocean in the Department of Climate and Environment. We perform data analyses as well as develop models and tools to provide knowledge about and give decision support on topics within governance, economics, and environmental (including biodiversity) and climate effects. Our group works with a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods, focusing on interdisciplinary research using a systems perspective. The group is based in Trondheim, but we also have employees in Tromsø and Bergen.
We use a variety of methods such as value chain modelling, LCA, MFA, and macro-economic modelling as well as participatory methods such as Group Model Building. We combine these methods with technology and industrial expertise, working across departments and institutes within SINTEF and across Europe.
We now need to expand our team with an experienced LCA researcher.
We are looking for candidates that:
Have a PhD and a solid analytical background.
Have documented advanced experience with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and quantitative environmental sustainability analysis. Preferably also previous experience in using open-source LCA software.
Have some knowledge in other methods (such as environmentally extended MRIO analysis and/or, Material Flow Accounting, Integrated Assessment Modelling, System Dynamics, Economics)
Have experience in a modern programming language, preferably Python, is essential alongside data analysis.
Can work on several initiatives and projects simultaneously.
Have engagement, willingness, and desire to develop a strong research community together with the team.
Are curious, enterprising, and creative.
Possess excellent written and oral English language skills as well as preferably language competencies within one of the Scandinavian languages.
Main work tasks:
Perform analyses and develop tools and models for decision support for societal and industrial challenges in the ocean economy by combining technological, economic, environmental, and socio-political aspects.
Are interested in both scientific work and project management in close collaboration with our customers and partners in Norway and abroad.
Develop projects (from initiating ideas and proposals to project management) and establish networks for SINTEF
Communicate and publish research results.
The ideal candidate will be able to expand the group's activities on developing solutions for current environmental challenges within ocean industries.
