Simula Research Laboratory
Simula Consulting, a daughter company of Simula Research Laboratory, is a deep tech consultancy specialising in delivering software solutions within machine learning, scientific computing, networking, and cyber security domains. We are now looking to further strengthen our team with a Senior Data Scientist in order to grow our capabilities within machine learning development, as well as engineering.
Simula Consulting is looking for their next Senior data Scientist
Who we are and what we do
The Simula Consulting team is on a mission to deliver high-quality consulting services to public and private organisations. We want to redefine what is possible through digitalisation, and we seek to bridge the gap between academic discoveries and real-world applications. At the moment the core team consists of a mix of 11 data scientists, data engineers and software engineers, most of us have a background within either mathematics/physics or computer science, and we work together in a highly collaborative and relaxed environment, using an agile-ish framework to structure our projects. We are a diverse and international team so English is the lingua franca here, besides python of course. During our short lifetime we have won awards for our commitment to the AI community in Norway and a recent project we worked on just won the “AI for good” special prize at the World AI festival in Cannes.
As a new member of our team, you will be involved in exciting and challenging projects in different domains ranging from med-tech (work to help prevent cancer) to aqua-culture (preventing invasive species of salmon from invading Norwegian rivers, or helping to optimise fish feeding). You will get the opportunity to work on problems requiring state of the art Computer Vision or NLP techniques and model development. You will have the opportunity to productionize your models, set up MLOps workflows and come up with ways to monitor and improve model performance over time. You will work closely with other data scientists and engineers; we highly value a collaborative spirit.
In short, here’s what you will focus on
Participate in various IT projects with external customers and internally: understand a problem and gather requirements, translate business problems into problems solvable by e.g. machine learning solutions or other forms of optimisation.
Work with customers to understand how they can leverage their data into actionable insights.
Develop machine learning models, tune them, deploy to production.
Develop and implement digital products/technology in a team.
Collaborate with data scientists and ML researchers and get the opportunity to be involved in the entire machine learning life-cycle.
As a senior data scientist we believe you recognize yourself in most of the following
Have at least three years of relevant working experience, preferably as a consultant.
Have experience with the full machine learning life-cycle.
Enjoy writing clean and maintainable code, preferably in python.
Have a good grasp of relevant ML algorithms and techniques for e.g. deep learning.
Have experience diagnosing and debugging ML models.
Have experience with building data processing pipelines for small and big data.
Can work independently and take ownership of tasks from start to finish, while also enjoying teamwork. Experience in agile project management is a plus.
Actively strives to learn new things and share knowledge with others.
