LEDIG STILLING VED SIMULA

Senior Data Scientist at Simula Consulting

Deadline: 12.10.2023

Simula Research Laboratory AS

Simula Consulting is on a mission to lead and redefine what is possible through digitalisation. We bridge the gap between academic discoveries and real-world applications. At the moment the core team consists of a mix of 11 data scientists, data engineers and software engineers. Most of us have a background within either mathematics/physics or computer science, and we work together in a highly collaborative and relaxed environment, using an agile-ish framework to structure our projects. We are a diverse and international team so English is the lingua franca here, besides Python of course.

We work in cross-disciplinary teams of data scientists, data engineers and researchers from Simula Research Laboratory, an internationally renowned research institute. This close collaboration allows us to work with the latest developments in our field and build cutting-edge technology.

During our short lifetime we have won awards for innovation, for commitment to the AI community in Norway, and a recent project we worked on was awarded the “AI for good” special prize at the World AI festival in Cannes.

Simula Consulting is looking for their next senior data scientist:

Simula Consulting is a new, award-winning subsidiary of Simula Research Laboratory that focuses on deep tech consultancy. Our focal point and strength is to deliver solutions within AI/machine learning, scientific computing, networking, and cyber-security to tackle real life problems. We have built and deployed numerous solutions for small and large clients, we host seminars and lectures, and as a member of NORA (Norwegian AI Research Consortium) we act responsibly and we believe in ‘AI for good’.

Currently, we are strengthening our team further with one or more Senior Data Scientists and Software developers in order to grow our capabilities within AI/machine learning development, security and advanced software engineering.

What we do

As a new member of our team, you will be involved in exciting and challenging projects in different domains ranging from med-tech (e.g. work to help prevent cancer) to aqua-culture (e.g. preventing invasive species of salmon from invading Norwegian rivers, or helping to optimise fish feeding). You will get the opportunity to work on problems requiring state of the art Computer Vision or NLP techniques and model development. You will have the opportunity to productionize your models, set up MLOps workflows and come up with ways to monitor and improve model performance over time. You will work closely with other data scientists and engineers; we highly value a collaborative spirit.

In short, here’s what you will focus on

  • Participate in various IT projects with external customers and internally: understand a problem and gather requirements, translate business problems into problems solvable by e.g. machine learning solutions or other forms of optimisation.
  • Work with customers to understand how they can leverage their data into actionable insights.
  • Develop machine learning models, tune them, deploy to production.
  • Develop and implement digital products/technology in a team.
  • Collaborate with data scientists and ML researchers and get the opportunity to be involved in the entire machine learning life-cycle.
  • Take responsibility as a senior for mentoring others, help with project management, and client contacts.

As a senior data scientist we believe you recognize yourself in most of the following

Have at least three years of relevant working experience. Consultancy experience is a plus. Have experience with the full machine learning life-cycle.

  • Enjoy writing clean and maintainable code, preferably in Python.

Have a good grasp of relevant ML algorithms and techniques for e.g. deep learning.

Have experience diagnosing and debugging ML models.

Have experience with building data processing pipelines for small and big data.

  • Can work independently and take ownership of tasks from start to finish, while also enjoying teamwork. Experience in agile project management is a plus.
  • Actively strives to learn new things and share knowledge with others.

Simula Consulting offers

  • Opportunities in a growing company, allowing professional personal growth and development - we value that our people take larger responsibilities.
  • Work with awesome colleagues in an informal and inclusive international working environment: join a highly competent and motivated team of international researchers and engineers.
  • A competitive salary.
  • Modern office facilities located at Oslo city centre with various incentives and benefits like subsidised canteen meals, generous equipment budgets, and sponsored social events.
  • Other benefits: access to company cabins, comprehensive travel/health insurance policy and pension benefits etc.
  • Relocation assistance: accommodation, visas, complimentary Norwegian language courses, etc.
  • Wellness and work-life balance. Our employees’ health and well-being is a priority and we encourage them to make use of our flexible work arrangements to help balance their work and home lives efficiently.
  • Cake Thursday every month.
