The Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA) is Norway's leading research institute for the aquatic environment, working across a wide range of environmental, climate and resource issues. NIVAs section for nature-based solutions and aquatic ecology is looking to expand its team of researchers. We are in this regard looking to recruit a researcher with experience in applied aquatic ecology (focusing on freshwaters) including experience e.g., related to restoration, nature-based solutions, but you should be willing to work transdisciplinary. You will join a section of currently 11 researchers, PhD students and research assistants, and will be expected also to cooperate with researchers across NIVA. You will be part of a highly skilled and interdisciplinary environment.

The position will report to the Research Manager of NIVA’s Naturebased solutions and aquatic ecology.

Qualifications requirements

We seek candidates with advanced degrees in aquatic ecology. Applicants with a Ph.D. degree will be preferred, but those with Masters degrees and relevant experience will also be considered.Strong ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing, is required. Some understanding of Norwegian will be an advantage.

The working tasks of the candidate will be based on relevant expertise and experience which should include several of the following areas:

  • Applied research within freshwater ecology
  • Experience of from national, regional, local authorities or industry work on applied aquatic ecology issues
  • Field work, field sampling design, experimental design
  • Multivariate analyses, spatial statistics or Geographical Information Systems
  • Dissemination of results in peer review and popular science journals
  • Application writing / project acquisition and project management
