Job Description

A 2-year full-time Researcher position (SKO 1109) in Machine Learning and Systems Immunology is available at the Department of Immunology, Institute of Clinical Medicine, The Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo (UiO).

More about the position

The appointment is a fulltime position. The position is available from September 2024 with a flexible start between October 2024 and January 2025. The position will be located in Dr. Greiff's laboratory (Lab for Computational and Systems Immunology, greifflab.org).The position is externally funded.

The candidate will develop machine learning and computational sequence-based approaches to identify antigen-specific immune receptors from immune repertoire data.

The Greiff Lab focuses on the quantitative understanding of adaptive immune receptor (antibody and T-cell receptor) specificity using high-throughput experimental and computational immunology combined with machine learning. The long-term aim is to conceive in-silico novel immunodiagnostics and immunotherapeutics using the disease-diagnostic information and therapeutic potential that is directly encoded into adaptive immune receptors. Qualification requirements

  • Applicants must hold a PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, statistics, computer science or a related field. Prior knowledge of biology or immunology is a requirement. 
  • Experience in immune repertoire biology is an advantage.
  • Experience in machine learning is an advantage.
  • Experience in data analysis of biological sequence data is an advantage.
  • Coding abilities in R/Python are an advantage.
  • The candidate will work in a very ambitious interdisciplinary setting, which will require high flexibility, the ability to work under pressure, and the ability to work independently.
  •  Fluent oral and written communication skills in English.

Tasks

  • Analysis of high-throughput BCR sequencing data from mice immunized with antigen
  • Development of novel computational approaches for immune repertoire comparisons
  • Development of machine learning approaches for identification of antigen-specific sequences from immune repertoires
