Centre for Molecular Medicine Norway (NCMM) was established in 2008 and is the Norwegian node in the Nordic EMBL Partnership for Molecular Medicine. NCMM is a joint venture between the University of Oslo, Health Region South-East and the Research Council of Norway. From 2017 NCMM is merged with the Biotechnology Centre of Oslo and now has altogether 11 research groups. The overall objective of NCMM is to conduct cutting edge research in molecular medicine and biotechnology as well as facilitate translation of discoveries in basic medical research into clinical practice.
About the position
A 24-month researcher position in neurosciences with a strong experience in rodent pup handling and electronics is available. Do you want to join an interdisciplinary research group at the University of Oslo at the intersection of system neuroscience, sleep research and neurobiological development? The successful applicant will join the group of Charlotte Boccara at the Norwegian Centre for Molecular Biosciences and Medicine.
Boccara’s team is composed of young international researchers coming from different backgrounds and benefits from a very good academic and social environment. Boccara has experience from publishing in top journals (Nature Communication 2022, Science 2019, Science 2017, Nature Neuroscience 2010, Science 2008). The team already received prestigious grants from the Norwegian research council and the European commission for their project combining advanced techniques in in vivo electrophysiology with neurodevelopmental tools to investigate the role of sleep in cognitive development.
The applicant technical tasks will encompass the followings: buildings small electronics and electrodes to monitor and manipulate sleep in rodent pups, taking care of rodents and rodent pups (husbandry, pre-handling, behaviour), histology and cell culture. In addition, the applicant will help with stock and animal inventories.
Qualifications
A Bachelor degree in science. A Master’s degree in a relevant field will be considered as very valuable. The ideal candidate should have a strong biology background with strong experience in several of the followings: building electrophysiology electronics, animal experiments (preferably rodents), experience with research animals and breading, histology, cell culture. The applicant must have an animal licence type FELASA or equivalent. An understanding and experience with the UiO ordering system and Science Linker is valuable. The applicant must have demonstrated experience with building complex electrophysiology recording devices.

Salary in position as Researcher, position code 1108 in salary range NOK 460 800 – 585 200, depending on competence and experience. From the salary, 2 percent is deducted in statutory contributions to the State Pension Fund.
