The Department of Microsystems have a vacancy for a temporary post as Researcher in electrode material for sodium ion battery
About the position
The Faculty of Technology, Natural Sciences and Maritime Sciences has a vacancy for a full-time temporary position as Researcher from 01.04.2025.
The position is associated with USN Innovation Center and the Department of Microsystems, and reports to the Head of Department. The place of employment is Vestfold Campus, University of South-Eastern Norway.
The position is part of a research project funded by the Research Council of Norway for the development of carbon electrode materials for sodium ion battery. Specifically, the project has an ambitious aim to develop highly performing negative electrode materials to promote the advance of sodium ion battery industry.
You will get the opportunity to take part in developing innovative preparation methodologies, evaluate the sodium storage performance, and investigate the storage mechanism.
The project also involves domestic collaboration with leading research institutes (e.g., Institute for Energy Technology) and other universities (e.g. University of Oslo) in Norway.
The appointment is for a term of two years from the date of entry into the position.

Responsibilities and duties
As part of the project your main responsibilities and duties are implementation of the project related to the development of carbon electrode materials for sodium ion battery.
We are searching for candidates with
Norwegian PhD degree, or equivalent education from abroad, in Materials, Chemistry, Electrochemistry, Micro- and nanotechnology, or similar
a strong track record in research in design and fabrication of electrode materials for sodium, lithium batteries
hands-on experience within material synthesis, material characterization, cell assembly and electrochemical measurements
excellent oral and written communication skills in English

Salary
Researcher (code 1109): NOK 624 500 – 821 100 per year.
Salary grade according to seniority and competence. Statutory amounts for the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund will be deducted from salary.
The person appointed must comply with the laws, regulations and agreements that apply at any given time to the post.
