About the position

Position as Researcher in Computational Biology available at Department of Biosciences.

The position is for a period of 3 years. 

Starting date: as soon as possible.

Project description

The position is devoted to carrying out a project entitled " Decoding the novel role of the endoplasmic reticulum in mechanotransduction", funded by the Norwegian Research Council. The aim of the project is to improve our understanding of how mechanical cues are transmitted via cellular and nuclear organelles, affecting gene expression in diseases like cancer.

The candidate will contribute to an already established collaboration between the labs of Prof. Jonas Paulsen and Prof. Cinzia Progida. Their joint group currently consists of several postdocs, PhD students, and master students, with expertice within cell- and molecular biology, mathematics, bioinformatics and programming. By combining cutting-edge microscopy technology with advanced computational analyses, our groups unravel novel insights into how cells function in health, and in diseases like cancer.

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition to be among Europe's leading communities for research, education and innovation. Candidates for these fellowships will be selected in accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.

Qualification requirements:

• Applicants must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in bioinformatics, bioscience, biophysics or a related field. Doctoral dissertation must be submitted for evaluation by the closing date. Only applicants with an approved doctoral thesis and completed defence are eligible for appointment.
• Experience with development of computational tools for analysis of omics and/or live-cell imaging data.
• Fluent oral and written communication skills in English.

Desired qualifications:

• Experience with software development and programming (e.g. Python, C++, or similar)
• Experience with analysis of Hi-C (or related) data
• Experience with the use of high-performance computing (HPC) systems 
• Proficiency in UNIX/Linux and Bash/Shell scripting
• Experience with machine learning and pattern recognition tool development

All candidates and projects will have to undergo a check versus national export, sanctions and security regulations. Candidates may be excluded based on these checks. Primary checkpoints are the Export Control regulation, the Sanctions regulation, and the national security regulation.
