SINTEF Ocean is seeking a researcher/senior researcher in marine modeling and analysis

Would you like to participate in making smarter use of the ocean through digitalization?

SINTEF Ocean is seeking a researcher/senior researcher in marine modeling and analysis Do you have a desire for freedom and the opportunity to manage and define your own work, as well as pursue your own research interests? Would you like to work in a strong interdisciplinary team with a passion for their subject areas and problem-solving? The Fisheries and New Biomarine Industries department is now looking for a researcher or senior researcher for the Marine modeling and analysis research group. We conduct research and development in digital technologies for several ocean-related industries, such as fisheries, aquaculture, energy, and transportation. As a researcher/senior researcher, you will have the opportunity to develop the group's research activities in new directions within the department's focus areas.

The group consists of researchers with varied backgrounds in fisheries, marine technology, hydrodynamics, nautical science, physics, and cybernetics. We develop decision support systems for fisheries and fisheries management, tools for simulation-based design and analysis of ships, fishing gear, and aquaculture systems, as well as state estimators and control systems. In short, it is about connecting and analyzing different types of data to extract and utilize the useful information in them. We are looking for someone who is passionate about advanced data analysis and modeling, and who wants to use their skills to make a difference!

The tasks will be within several of the following areas:

  • Development of methods and tools for simulation, design, and analysis.
  • Mathematical modeling of fishing gear, ships, and equipment.
  • Development of methods for big data analysis using machine learning.
  • Further development of our own modeling and simulation software and data collection service.
  • Development of services based on data analysis.

Qualifications we are looking for in you include:

  • A doctoral degree in relevant fields (marine technology, cybernetics, data technology, physics, etc.). Several years of particularly relevant experience after completing a master's degree may compensate for the lack of a Ph.D.
  • Is interested in the development of analysis and simulation tools for marine applications (fishing, ships, offshore structures, marine operations, etc.).
  • Have an interest in and understanding of software development and system architecture. We mainly work in C++, Python, and Julia. Experience with Git, CMake, Conan, and Docker can be an advantage.
  • Are curious and inspired to find new solutions and answers.
  • Working language is Norwegian, and if you do not speak the language, you must be willing to learn. SINTEF can help with Norwegian language courses.

At SINTEF Ocean, we focus on your personal and professional development. You will work closely with experts in various fields and become part of an inclusive environment of like-minded individuals who wants to contribute to developing society for the better. You will have the opportunity to become part of an inspiring professional environment that is leading in several areas in Europe. You will likely thrive with us if you enjoy working in teams and are inspired to find good solutions together. Some people like routines and the same tasks every day. Unfortunately, we cannot offer you such a working day, but if you are triggered by innovation and technology done in a sustainable way, you will fit in well at SINTEF Ocean. Welcome to SINTEF as you are and as who you want to become!

The workplace is in Trondheim. The position reports to the head of the research group. A concise application with CV and transcripts should be submitted by 10th of March.

If you are curious or have questions, please feel free to contact our recruiting partner Jefferson Wells. All inquiries will be treated confidentially.
