Are you an “early career” /newly graduated and ambitious researcher or engineer looking to make a significant impact on the aquatic environment? The Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA), is seeking a curious, devoted and forward-thinking employee to join our team.

The right candidate will join the section for Urban Environment and infrastructure and is expected to contribute with expanding the section’s portfolio in projects related to the use and development of various technological and nature-based purification solutions for different types of water (sewage and wastewater, stormwater, process water, drinking water etc.). Our projects include for example experiments conducted in the laboratory, small-scale pilots on NIVA premises or at customer sites, and full-scale experiments at customer sites. The projects are both national and international and are typically carried out in interdisciplinary teams with other employees from NIVA as well as external research partners. In many of our projects we have close collaboration with stakeholders spanning private and/or public entities and NGOs.

Main tasks

  • Participate in national and international projects related to purification of various types of water using different purification solutions (technological and nature-based).
  • Contribute to initiating and developing new projects related to purification of various types of water using different purification solutions (technological and nature-based).
  • Contribute to activities such as planning and logistics, setup and operation of test equipment such as sensors, sampling equipment, pilot systems, etc. This also involves good coordination and communication with sample reception and laboratory services.
  • Contribute to writing reports and scientific articles, including data analysis 
  • Contribute to writing proposals and project applications

Qualifications

  • Minimum MSc in water and wastewater engineering/environmental engineering, environmental chemistry
  • Recent graduate or a few years of experience in field and laboratory work involving various purification technologies for different types of water
  • Strong understanding of water quality, water pollution, and purification processes
  • Valid driver's license (Class B)
  • Excellent written and spoken English are required
  • Scandinavian language skills are an advantage
