Forskningsleder innenfor bærekraftig bioteknologi og bioprospektering

Vil du være med på å definere neste generasjons forskning innen blant annet mat, energi, medisinsk teknologi, farmasøytika og vaksiner, biomaterialer, enzymer, fôr og kjemikalier? – Vi søker nå etter en dyktig, motivert og ambisiøs leder for forskningsgruppe Bærekraftig bioteknologi og bioprospektering.

Forskningsgruppa hører til Avdeling for bioteknologi og nanomedisin i SINTEF Industri, som er ett av de seks instituttene i SINTEF-konsernet. Avdelingen har en sterk posisjon nasjonalt og internasjonalt gjennom for eksempel å lede Senter for forskningsdrevet innovasjon (SFI) innen industriell bioteknologi og å koordinere EU-prosjekter som skal bidra til å nå mål i EUs grønne giv (‘Green Deal’)

Avdeling for bioteknologi og nanomedisin har bredde- og spisskompetanse som etterspørres innen markedsområder som marin, helse, industri, mat og landbruk. Områdene er sentrale i regjeringens nasjonale plan for bioteknologi. Vi står sterkt innenfor forskningsområdene mikrobiell molekylærbiologi, bioprosessteknologi, medisinsk teknologi, (bio) polymerer, biofarmasøytika og nanoteknologi. Våre laboratorier har svært avansert og moderne instrumentpark.

Avdelingen har om lag 100 medarbeidere og består av forskningsgruppene Medisinsk bioteknologi, Industriell og marin bioteknologi, Bærekraftig bioteknologi og bioprospektering, Massespektrometri og Polymerpartikler og overflatekjemi.

Gruppa som vår nye medarbeider skal lede, har i dag ca. 15 medarbeidere. Prosjektporteføljen i gruppa er bred, innenfor ulike deler av moderne bioteknologi. Medarbeiderne har kompetanse i mikrobiologi (aerob/anaerob dyrking, bakterier/gjær/sopp, diverse råvarer, inkludert C1-forbindelser), molekylærbiologi, syntetisk biologi, sekvenseringsteknologi, bioinformatikk og avansert programmering (AI), systembiologi, sekvens- og funksjonsbasert bioprospektering for nye enzymer og bioaktive forbindelser, naturprodukt- og enzymproduksjon og karakterisering, antimikrobiell resistens (AMR) og biofilm. Kompetansen i gruppa inngår i en rekke store nasjonale og internasjonale forskningsprosjekter og benyttes bl.a. innenfor bioøkonomi, økologi (biologisk mangfold), kjemi, prosessteknologi, automasjon, og tekno-økonomiske analyser.

Forskningslederen vi skal tilsette, bør ha solid oversikt og erfaring fra flere av disse fagområdene. Vi forventer at forskningslederens innsikt i ulike tema innen bioteknologi, skal gi solid strategisk grunnlag for fortsatt å utvikle instituttet som en ledende forskningsaktør innen bioteknologi.

Kompetanse og kvalifikasjoner

  • Doktorgrad i et relevant fagområde, f.eks. industriell bioteknologi, bioprosessteknikk, mikrobiologi.
  • Erfaring med forskningsledelse og fortrinnsvis dokumenterte ferdigheter som leder.
  • Godt og relevant vitenskapelig og industrielt nettverk.
  • Kjennskap til nasjonalt og internasjonalt virkemiddelapparat for forskning
  • Gode administrative ferdigheter
  • Meget god framstillingsevne, skriftlig og muntlig, på engelsk, og, fortrinnsvis, på norsk eller annet skandinavisk språk.

Research manager within Sustainable biotechnology and bioprospecting

SINTEF Industry is seeking a skilled, motivated and ambitious leader for the research group Sustainable Biotechnology and Bioprospecting

The research group belongs to the Department of Biotechnology and Nanomedicine in SINTEF Industry, which is one of the six institutes in the SINTEF group. The department has a strong position nationally and internationally through, for example, leading Center for research-driven innovation (SFI) in Industrial Biotechnology and as a host of EU funded research projects that contribute to the EU's Green Deal.

The Department of biotechnology and nanomedicine has broad and specialist expertise needed in markets like marine, health, industry, food, and agriculture. These areas are central in the national strategy for biotechnology. The department has internationally recognized expertise in research areas such as microbial molecular biology, bioprocess technology, medical technology, (bio)polymers, biopharmaceuticals and nanotechnology. The department hosts national leading infrastructures for Bioprocess technology, High throughput screening, and Mass Spectrometry, along with state-of-the-art molecular biology and chemical synthesis labs.

The Dept. of Biotechnology and Nanomedicine has approx. 100 employees and consists of the Research groups Medical Biotechnology, Industrial and Marine Biotechnology, Sustainable Biotechnologies and Bioprospecting, Mass Spectrometry, and Polymer Particles and Surface Chemistry.

The group to be led by our new research manager has currently has approx. 15 employees. The project portfolio in the group is broad, within diverse sub-disciplines of modern biotechnology. The employees have expertise in microbiology (aerobic/anaerobic cultivation, bacteria/yeast/fungi, various raw materials, including C1 compounds), molecular biology, synthetic biology, sequencing technology, bioinformatics and advanced programming (AI), systems biology, sequence- and function-based bioprospecting for new enzymes and bioactive compounds, natural product and enzyme production and characterization, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and biofilm. The expertise in the group is included in several large national and international research projects and is applied e.g. within bioeconomy, ecology (biodiversity), chemistry, process technology, automation, and techno-economic and sustainability assessments.

The research manager to be employed should have a solid overview and experience from several of the above-mentioned fields. We expect that the research manager’s expertise and experience will provide a solid strategic basis for the continued development of the institute as a leading research partner for the biotechnology landscape.

Competence and qualifications

  • PhD in a relevant scientific area, e.g. industrial biotechnology, bioprocess engineering, microbiology.
  • Experience with scientific leadership and preferably documented skills in leadership
  • Well-established and relevant scientific and industrial network.
  • Knowledge of national and international policy instruments for research
  • Good administrative skills
  • Very good written and oral communication skills, in English and, preferably, in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language.
