We now have a senior researcher position available at the Research department, Division of Psychiatry.

The application of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) is an emerging trend in science and offers an excellent way to study the background of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. By performing cell-based iPSC studies, this project aims to identify and characterize molecular and cellular mechanisms and phenotypes that are responsible for the symptoms and predisposition of these disorders. This project aims at experimental methodologies that will include iPSC-derived neurons and astrocytes, 2D and 3D cultures, and microglia.

Tasks

  • The candidate will join a research group experienced with iPSC differentiation and will be responsible for the development of 3D brain organoids models to model and understand the causes and development of psychiatric disorders, as well as treatment effects.
  • The derived cells will be subjected to rigorous validation utilizing already established protocols. These will include transcriptomic analysis, immunohistochemistry, high-end microscopy, FACS, and diverse functional and immunological assays.
  • The project will undertake development of psychopharmacological screening for psychiatric disorders using iPSC-derived models, employing novel analytical tools and large samples for pharmacogenetics analyses.

Qualifications

  • The candidate must have a PhD degree in neuroscience, cell biology, molecular genetics or equivalent, and have a genuine interest in stem cell related research
  • Completed at least one postdoctoral fellowship (2-4 years).
  • Strong background in iPSCs culture maintenance and expansion, and setup of iPSC-derived neurons and brain organoids for disease modelling required.
  • Research experience with fibroblast reprogramming into iPSCs with synthetic messenger RNA, as well as documented experience in advanced microscopy (fluorescent/confocal) and FACS is desirable.
  • Documented experience in protein based cytokine profiling methods: Western blot, IP, ELISA; nucleic acid assays, gene expression analysis (QPCR, RNA-Seq), and functional assays (gene silencing/knock-down, CRISPR knock-out editing, ELISPOT, molecular cloning, etc.), is an advantage.
  • A publication record of in vitro pharmacogenomic studies in mental disorders is highly desirable.
  • The candidate should be proficient in spoken and written English language.

Personal qualities

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills and attention to details.
  • Scientific curiosity, ambition and high degree of motivation for pursuing a research career.
  • Personal skills will be emphasized. Especially, the candidate should be able to work independently and interactively in a team setting, be motivated and responsible, and have a great work capacity and enthusiasm for research.

We offer

  • An exciting research environment with a multidisciplinary profile and large opportunities for academic development.
  • Favourable pension arrangements.
  • Attractive welfare arrangements.
  • Salary by agreement.
