About the position

The Faculty of Faculty of Humanities, Sports and Educational Sciences has a vacancy for a position as PhD Research Fellow in International Education from August 1, 2019.

The position is at the Department of Culture, Religion and Social Studies and reports to the Head of Department. The place of employment is Campus Drammen.

This PhD position is included in a project entitled “Cultures for Democracy and Diversity in Teacher Education - Comparative Perspectives”. This project encapsulates the many research projects at USN, previous and ongoing, with a focus on democracy and diversity, pursuing robust, critical, and thick interpretations of what democracy is, what it should be, and, significantly, how the education sector can arrange for and make available learning processes, learning outcomes and forms of assessment cultivating a thick notion of democracy where diversity and social justice are seen as crucial elements. Most of the projects are related to public education and teacher education for public education. However, as international schools are rapidly increasing in number, claiming to excel in promoting democracy and global citizens with competences in handling diverse human environments it is important to investigate teacher education programs that educate teachers for private schools. With a PhD candidate conducting such research, it will enable us to take a comparative perspective on what cultures for democracy and diversity are promoted in teacher education at national and international levels.

The PhD candidate will be included in the research group Social Studies Education.

The appointment is for a term of three years, or four years with 25% teaching duties.

For further information concerning the position please contact Associate Professor Heidi Biseth heidi.biseth@usn.no +47 95995313 at Department of Culture, Religion and Social Studies.
