BI Norwegian Business School invites applications for the position of Postdoctoral research fellow in the Operations Management Group at the Department of Accounting and Operations Management in Oslo. The appointment is a fulltime position for a period of three years.
Project description
The interdisciplinary research project, called LogiCCS, consists of 15 partners across Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Latvia, aiming at developing knowledge to enhance efficient Carbon capture, transportation and storage (CCS) supply chains and operations in the region. The focus is on development of sustainable and energy-efficient cross-border maritime infrastructure and logistics solutions for transporting carbon dioxide (CO2) captured from energy intensive and heavy industry sectors in the Nordic and Baltic Sea Region for long term storage.
The project goals include:
- Identification of reliable cross-regional logistics network scenarios, data collection and development of decision support models for optimal maritime infrastructure for collection of the captured CO2 from the emitters and transportation to storage or utilization, considering environmental impacts, alternative business models and tax regimes.
- Analysis of the future fleet capacity and mix for transport of CO2.
- Publication of academic articles, teaching cases and other knowledge dissemination activities.
BI will lead the logistics research stream in the project and the Norwegian contribution, cooperating with industrial partners and researchers from other project disciplines, such as marine technology and ship design, geology, environmental science and law to develop more integrated approach to different aspects of CCS value chains.
The funding is received through EU`s Clean Energy Transition Partnership (CETP) program, which aims to promote research and development in European member states and associated countries to accelerate the energy transition. The program is co-financed among the states, with the Research Council of Norway contributing funding for Norwegian partners.
The candidate will have a leading role in framing the post-doctoral project. We welcome applicants to submit a short project proposal, which reflects their area of interest.
The successful applicant will be required to apply quantitative methods and work with other project partners on developing models and tools supporting innovative solutions and insights for practitioners and academics working on this topic.
Duties and responsibilities include among other things:
Contribute to development and execution of the activity plan to ensure completion of the agreed project milestones and deliverables on time
Conduct excellent quantitative research with an aim of developing a decision-making toolbox for optimization of logistics network using optimization and/or simulation methods and software
Support the rest of the team wrt methodology and implementation issues
Organise and execute data collection and the case study work with interviews, observations, workshops with stakeholder to establish realistic scenarios and model structures
Lead and contribute to academic research publications, presenting at appropriate conferences
Prepare and present findings of research activity to the team for review purposes
Qualification Requirements
PhD degree, preferably within Industrial Engineering, Logistics, Operations Research/Management, Decision/management Science, Data Science, Economics, Supply Chain Management. However, applicants will be evaluated based on an overall assessment, and fit with the position
Only applicants with an approved doctoral thesis and public defense are eligible for appointment. Applicants defending their Phd.thesis during fall 2025 or January 2026, can be assessed
Very good English skills, both written and oral
Previous experience with optimization and /or simulation tools or decision support software development
Personal skills:
Ability to collaborate with researchers from different fields and at different career stages.
Ability to work independently on pre-defined tasks
Willingness to be part of a team to share knowledge and skills
Strong organizational skills and interest for data-driven research
Positive attitude and the ability to handle hectic periods
