LEDIG STILLING VED HANDELSHØYSKOLEN BI

Associate Professor / Professor of Law

Deadline: 31.01.2021

BI Norwegian Business School

BI Norwegian Business School is ranked among the top business schools in Europe combining internationally recognized research and a wide range of educational offerings from bachelor to master and doctoral degree programmes as well as executive programmes. BI’s mission is to build the knowledge economy by empowering people and improving business. BI has 20 000 students, more than 300 000 alumni, and a number of academic and business partnerships and networks both nationally and internationally. BI holds the three most prestigious international quality accreditations – AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA. BI is organised as an independent foundation whose purpose is teaching and research. All profits are used to strengthen BI's academic- and learning environment.

Bl Norwegian Business School (Bl), Department of Law and Governance, invites applications for one position either as Associate Professor or Professor of Law, with special focus on International Contract Law, Shipping and Transportation Law. It is also a benefit if the applicant has intimate knowledge of Insurance Law.

The position includes research and teaching responsibilities at all levels. We are looking for a candidate with strong research capabilities and the ambition to advance the field with publications in top international journals. The candidate should demonstrate solid teaching skills.

With its approximately 20 000 students and 400 faculty members, Bl is Europe's second largest business school and is Norway's largest supplier of economic and administrative professionals. Bl is the only Norwegian "Triple Crown" school, holding 3 of the most important accreditations for a business school with international ambitions: the European EQUIS, the American AACSB, and the British AMBA. About 90 of an approximate total of 15 500 business schools globally can pride themselves on a Triple Crown status.

The Department of Law and Governance has an ambition to increase its impact both nationally and internationally. The Department is responsible for courses at Bachelor, Master of Science, MBA and Executive Level and is currently home to about 40 full-time academic faculty and 5 PhD students.

As shipping is a field within which Norway is a global and influential player, the Department has a considerable portfolio of courses and teaching within shipping and the international contract law of transportation and trade that go with it. There is, however, need for more research within the field, as BI has aims to back up practically relevant teaching with solid research. The Department of Law and Governance wishes therefore to strengthen its research and teaching efforts in this field.

The applicants should have completed a PhD in Law and must be able to document scientific qualifications at a high level and be able to engage in an interdisciplinary research environment related to the legal disciplines of shipping, international contract law and insurance. Emphasis will also be placed on the applicants' experience with attracting and managing relationship with key stakeholders in the Norwegian and international shipping community, with the aim of strengthening the position of BI and attracting research funding. Attracting research funding will be a prioritized responsibility for the position.

We expect the applicant to teach and supervise students at Bachelor's and Master's level and that the applicant - independently and jointly with others – will contribute to developing the academic field in question through research of high international quality and orientation.

The applicant must be capable of teaching in English and Norwegian. Although non-Norwegian speakers are not precluded from applying, it is an expectation that applicants are willing and able to prioritize learning Norwegian well enough to master it in a teaching setting.

lf an applicant's pedagogical qualifications are insufficient, the assessment committee or the Department Council may recommend that the applicant complete pedagogical training as a condition of appointment. However, employment may be carried out under the presumption that sufficient pedagogical competence will be obtained within two years from the start date. Qualifications will be evaluated according to the usual rules for academic positions at universities and specialized university institutions. Women are encouraged to apply. The pension scheme is managed through Storebrand.

Qualified applicants may be called in for an interview, a trial lecture or a seminar presentation. Bl reserves the right not to appoint applicants who are academically qualified if they are found not to satisfy other explicit requirements with respect to pedagogical skills, teaching experience, work experience in or in cooperation with the business sector or inter-personal skills.
