BI has initialized a close collaboration with Simula Research Laboratory, to strengthen their expertise on data science through research collaboration and the establishment of a new department and research center in data science, located at BI. The partnership aims at strengthening the link between statistical methodology and machine learning, and between algorithms and high-impact applications of particular relevance to society.

BI Norwegian Business School has a vacant position as Assistant Professor in Data Science.

The Department of Data Science at BI Norwegian Business School in Oslo, Norway invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor. Applicants from any relevant field are welcome, with a preference for candidates with a background in machine learning, statistical learning, and/or artificial intelligence, including their applications. The appointment starts in the spring 2022.

The tenure-track position has a duration of four years, a low teaching load, and an internationally competitive salary. The Department of Data Science has a bonus system for publications in selected journals with a generous per publication reward system, and we provide ample support for research-related activities and conference travels.

Applicants should have completed a PhD in computer science (or related fields) prior to the start date of the position. We expect successful candidates to produce high-quality research suitable for publication in top peer-reviewed journals. Teaching will be conducted at the undergraduate, graduate, or PhD levels. Experience with teaching is preferred, but not required. Excellent abilities in clear communication and presentation are required. Knowledge of Norwegian is preferred but not required. ABOUT THE TENURE TRACK SYSTEM

While the position as an assistant professor is a four-year temporary position, the employee will be evaluated for tenure after three years, using formalized and pre-determined tenure track requirements. If given tenure, the temporary position is converted into a permanent associate professorship position. The tenure track requirements focus on the number and quality of the research papers the employee has produced (not necessarily while having the assistant professor position). The quality of the papers is mainly measured by the quality of the journal the paper is published in.
