Simula Research Laboratory AS is a publicly owned research lab located in Oslo, Norway. Simula conducts Information and Communication Technology (ICT) research in the fields of scientific computing, software engineering, communication systems, machine learning and cybersecurity.
Simula's main objective solve fundamental problems in ICT that benefit society. This is achieved through high quality research, education of graduate students, industry collaboration, technology transfer, and commercialization. Since 2001, scientific evaluations conducted by the Research Council of Norway have repeatedly placed Simula at the forefront of international research in ICT. In 2025, a new evaluation ranked Simula the highest of all Norwegian research institutions regarding impact and publication quality (see the national EVALMIT rapport, page 14).

We want to be an innovator and innovation partner and apply our expertise to problems that matter, and to bridge the gap between fundamental scientific discovery and real-world challenges.
We are currently strengthening our team with new positions that will act as a bridge between fundamental research and real-world applications, both towards industrial users and interdisciplinary scientific collaborators. As a new member of our team, you will have a central role in connecting results and insights from basic research to real-world problems and applications, through high-quality software solutions and applied research. You will be involved in exciting and challenging projects in different domains ranging from med-tech (e.g. developing models for personalized medicine) to energy (e.g. working on ML pipelines to increase production efficiency), and a lot more. You will help clients and collaborators understand their needs and translate those needs into tangible and novel innovations, in close collaboration with other scientists and engineers.
In short, here’s what you will focus on:
Participate in a variety of software-based projects with external customers: understand a problem and gather requirements, translate business problems into technical requirements and turn data into insights.
Work in teams with scientists and engineers, providing robust software solutions for fundamental and applied research projects.
Initiate and join industrial research projects, collaborate on project proposals and drive R&D processes.
As a candidate for these positions, we believe you recognize yourself in most of the following:
Have a PhD, or a Master’s degree followed by at least 4 years of experience, in Software Engineering, Scientific Computing and/ore.g. Data Science/Machine Learning.
Be passionate about software development and technology, with documented experience as a professional developer or from strong contributions to high-quality open source projects.
Have an aptitude for client communication and solution development.
Be a curious and collaborative person that puts quality first.
In addition, we consider the following beneficial:

Interest in learning new technologies and sharing knowledge with others.
A relevant network within Norwegian industry and/or public sector.
Relevant research experience.
Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks from start to finish, while also enjoying teamwork. Experience in agile project management is a plus.

Employment for this position will be made according to the act relating to Control of the export of strategic goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and any attachments are considered to be in conflict with the export control regulations will not qualify for this position. Simula operates under the Security Act. Candidates may be required to undergo a security clearance process depending on the nature of their work.
