Kalkulo is owned by, and co-located with, Simula Research Laboratory AS, a publicly owned research institute located outside Oslo, Norway. Simula is conducting ICT research in the fields of communication technology, scientific computing and software engineering. Simula's main objective is to generate new understanding and create vital knowledge about fundamental scientific challenges that are of genuine value for society.

Responsibilities

Kalkulo runs large and long-term software development projects together with visionary customers within our focus areas. The successful candidate will strengthen our software development team, and in particular fill these roles:

  1. Work as a scientific programmer associated with specific projects. Depending on interests and qualifications, typical tasks will be related to data analysis and visualization, numerical algorithms, parallelization, application and front-end development, system design.
  2. Be a central resource in Kalkulo’s competence pool addressing digitization and machine learning in the energy sector:

a. Design and implement data-driven solutions for our customers.

b. Working closely with senior personnel in the company to develop new projects that will help our customers gain new knowledge and insight from their large collections of data.

Your profile

Kalkulo is looking for talented and highly motivated people with a strong interest in developing software solutions for scientific applications. We expect that you are self-driven and cooperative and enjoy working in an agile and creative environment.

The typical formal qualification is a Master or PhD degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or Physics. We would consider both recent graduates as well as candidates with 1 – 3 years experience.

We expect that you have experience in, and are passionate about, at least one of the following topics:

  • Machine learning and data-driven methods
  • Visualization of large data sets
  • Big data analytics

You are also familiar with relevant languages and tools in the cloud computing and data science domains, for instance Kubernetes, Docker/rkt, Spark, TensorFlow, Caffee, Cassandra, Python, Java, Matlab, and related ML libraries. Moreover, experience with C++ development is an advantage, since this is the programming language we use most frequently.
