Applications are invited for a 3 year position in a Research Fellowship as PhD Candidate in the CRISPR gene therapy group led by Emma Haapaniemi to be based at NCMM, University of Oslo.

The aim of our laboratory is to build a gene editing platform that can be used to correct patient-specific mutations in ex vivo cell therapies for genetic immune and other rare childhood diseases. We will use high-throughput biology techniques to optimize, develop and understand the CRISPR-Cas system that forms the base of the platform, and develop and implement methods to evaluate its safety in clinical settings. We will use the modified gene editing technologies for the benefit of the patients in the adjacent children’s hospital.

More about the position

The fellowship period is 3 years.

We look for enthusiastic and hard-working person, preferably with a pre-existing medical degree and previous molecular biology research experience. You are a rigorous experimentalist but also understand the clinical conditions we work with. You have the ability to go through patient records if necessary and make independent conclusions from the data.

The research fellow must take part in an approved PhD program at the University of Oslo and is expected to complete the project within the set fellowship period. The main purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree.

Qualification requirements

• Applicants must hold a Medical Doctor degree, a Master’s degree or equivalent in Biomedicine or related field.
• Fluent oral and written communication skills in English.
