Job description

A three-year full time Postdoctoral Fellowship (position code 1352) in Influenza and Immunology is available at the Department of Immunology, Institute of Clinical Medicine, The Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo (UiO).

More about the position

The candidate will work on a project to make influenza vaccines universal. Current influenza vaccines generally have an efficacy around 10-60%, and must be updated every year to match new circulating virus strains. Since the influenza strains that are included in the influenza vaccine are decided 9-10 months in advance of the influenza season, the efficacy can be considerably lower if the vaccine strain does not match the circulating virus strain. In addition pandemic flu, such as the Spanish flu that killed around 50 million people, is a serious threat. Consequently, there is a need for improved influenza vaccines. Ideally, for broad vaccines that provide protection against several different influenza strains.

The candidate will work in the research group of Professor Bjarne Bogen at the Department of Immunology, Institute of Clinical Medicine. Professor Bogen’s research group work with influenza vaccines, tumor immunology, and T cell and B cell collaboration.
