The Institute of Basic Medical Sciences overall objective is to promote basic medical knowledge in order to understand normal processes, provide insight into mechanisms that cause illness, and promote good health. The Institute is responsible for teaching in basic medical sciences for the programmes of professional study in medicine and the Master's programme in clinical nutrition. The Institute has more than 300 employees and is located in Domus Medica.

Job description

Applicants are invited for a position as Postdoctoral Fellow in the research group of Professor Hesso Farhan. The position is available for a period of 36 months and starts no later than 01.07.2020.

More about the position

We seek a postdoctor with experience in studying the migration of cancer cells, with a particular focus on the role of Rho family GTPases and Rab family GTPases.

The main purpose of the fellowship is to qualify researchers for work in higher academic positions within their disciplines.

Qualification requirements

  • The candidate must have a PhD or other corresponding education equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in biology, medicine or a related discipline with experience in molecular and cell biology.
  • Candidates will be preferred who have experience in fluorescence microscopy techniques that go beyond conventional confocal imaging. A majority of the experiments has to be done in living cells and therefore experience with superresolution live imaging is very important for this project.
  • Experience in the field of Rho GTPases and Rab GTPases and the crosstalk thereof is essential for this project.
  • Any documented experience with mechanobiology techniques will be considered an advantage. This can be via publications or via a person that attests that the candidate has experience with this type of techniques
  • Good command of English

Personal skills

The postdoctoral fellow should be able to work independently and structured, while at the same time engage in close collaborations. Emphasis will be attributed to teamworking abilities and personal skills.
