Project description

Sepsis is a new research focus for the department, in collaboration with five other departments residing in three Divisions within the Institute of Clinical Medicine. A quality register for patients with suspected sepsis has been developed and moved to the approved platform MedInsight, supported by the Oslo University Hospital. An approved biobank for sepsis is linked to the quality register.

The main hypothesis of the research project is that the bacterial triggers leading to sepsis, the basic biological constitution of patients, the pace towards vascular collapse, the inflammatory state of the patient at a fairly random arrival at the hospital, and the post-septic reconstitution is highly variable, warranting a personalized medicine approach for diagnosis, treatment and follow-up.
