The Institute of Clinical Medicine (Klinmed) is one of three institutes under the Faculty. Klinmed is responsible for the Faculty's educational and research activities at Oslo University Hospital and Akershus University Hospital. With about 800 employees spread over approximately 425 man-labour years, Klinmed is the university's largest institute. Our activities follow the clinical activity at the hospitals and are spread across a number of geographical areas.

Oslo University Hospital is a highly specialized hospital in charge of extensive regional and local hospital assignments. As Scandinavia’s largest hospital, we carry out more than 1.2 million patient treatments each year. The hospital has a nationwide responsibility for a number of national and multi-regional assignments, and has several national centers of competence. Oslo University Hospital is responsible for approximately 50 percent of all medical and health care research conducted at Norwegian hospitals, and is a significant role player within the education of a large variety of health care personnel.

Oslo University Hospital (OUH) is Norway’s largest hospital with over 20 000 employees and a budget of 20 billion NOK. The Hospital has a local function for parts of Oslo's population and a regional function for the inhabitants in the South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority. The majority of national highly specialized functions are located at the Hospital. The Hospital is also responsible for the majority of medical research and education of health personnel in Norway.

The Faculty of Medicine was established in 1814 and is Norway's oldest medical faculty. The Faculty works for progressive education, research and dissemination for the patients’ and society’s best interests. It is organized into three basic units and has approximately 1 500 employees (about 1 000 work years) and about 2 000 students.

A permanent position as Senior Consultant (orthopaedic surgery) is available at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Rikshospitalet, Division of Orthopaedics, Oslo University Hospital. The position is affiliated with a part-time position as Professor II / Associate Professor (20 % position) in Medicine (orthopaedic surgery) at the Institute of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo (UiO). It is required that the position holder attends to both positions.

Regarding the full-time clinical position at OUH:

The Division of Orthopedics is one of twelve medical divisions at Oslo University Hospital. It encompasses the fields of orthopaedic traumatology, hand surgery including retransplant surgery, prosthetic surgery, oncology surgery, spinal including scoliosis surgery, foot/ankle surgery, pediatric surgery and arthroscopic surgery. The proximity to patients and their medical issues are the cornerstones for the research conducted at the Division. High ethical standards ensure the confidentiality and our goal is to continuously improve diagnostics, treatment and management for all our patients.

The Division has clinical and teaching activity at four locations, Rikshospitalet, Emergency Orthopaedics (Storgaten), Radiumhospitalet and Ullevål Hospital. The Division’s research activity is organized into 10 different research groups covering a broad range of basic and clinical research with an overall aim to improve patient care with emphasis on diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive measures.

The clinical activity of the position will be at the Department of Orthopaedics, Rikshospitalet. The position is affiliated to the Section for Pediatric Orthopaedics.

Qualification requirements – education and relevant personal qualities:

• Applicants must document broad education and must be experienced in pediatric orthopaedic surgery.

• Applicants must have high competence on treatment of congenital and acquired pediatric skeletal deformities.

• Applicants must be well-published in clinical and/or basic orthopaedic research and must have experience in children orthopaedics research.

• Applicants must be a board-certified orthopaedic surgeons, clinically active and have a wide experience. Norwegian health authorities demand a board certification issued in Norway in order to work as an orthopaedic surgeon in Norway. Applicants without a Norwegian board certification must present in detail how they will get this in due time.

• Certificate of good conduct.

The Division of Orthopaedics encompasses the fields of orthopaedic traumatology, hand surgery including retransplant surgery, foot and ankle surgery, prosthetic surgery, oncology surgery, spinal surgery, scoliosis surgery, pediatric surgery, arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine. The proximity to patients and their medical issues are the cornerstones for the research conducted at our Division.

The Division’s research activity is organized into 10 different research groups; Norwegian research center for Active Rehabilitation (NAR), Orthopaedic traumatology, Biomechanical laboratory, Pediatric orthopaedics, Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center (OSTRC), Oncological orthopaedics, Hand, CIRRO – Center for Implant and Radiostereometric Research Oslo, Osteoarthritis research group and Spine. The Division also has research activity at Diakonhjemmet Hospital. The research activity covers a broad range of basic and clinical research with an overall aim to improve patient care with emphasis on diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive measures. Most group leaders have a combined position at Oslo University Hospital and the University of Oslo. In total the Division has 7 Professors at the Institute of Clinical Medicine, 2 Associate Professors, postdoctoral fellowships, several PhD students and administrative and technical staff.
