Position as Postdoctoral Research Fellow is available at the Institute of Theoretical Astrophysics.

The appointment is a fulltime position and is for a period of up to four years, 25 % of which is devoted to required duties.

More about the position

The position is dedicated to an ERC Consolidator project called bits2cosmology, which aims to perform an end-to-end analysis of the Planck LFI, WMAP and SPIDER data with time-domain Gibbs sampling. Specifically, the current position will carry a main responsibility for the SPIDER analysis of the project, and the work will in particular revolve around low-level modeling and analysis of the SPIDER time-ordered data.

Previous experience with low-level CMB data analysis and time-ordered data is considered highly beneficial for this position, as are strong computing and programming skills. A generous personal travel/expenses grant of 50 kNOK is available per year.

The institute also has access to world-class computing facilities, both in-house and on-campus, that are directly available to the candidate.

The cosmology group at the Institute participates heavily in the Planck, SPIDER, COMAP and Euclid experiments, and is a member of the LiteBIRD Joint Study group.

Qualification requirements

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition of being a leading research faculty. Candidates for these fellowships will be selected in accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.

• Applicants must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in astrophysics, statistics, computer science or related fields. Doctoral dissertation must be submitted for evaluation by the closing date. Appointment is dependent on the public defence of the doctoral thesis being approved.
• Fluent oral and written communication skills in English

Postdoctoral fellows who are appointed for a period of four years are expected to acquire basic pedagogical competency in the course of their fellowship period within the duty component of 25 %.

The main purpose of post-doctoral research fellowships is to qualify researchers for work in top academic positions within their disciplines.

No one can be appointed as Postdoctoral Fellow for more than one specified period at the same institution.
