Job description
A Postdoctoral Fellow position in Neuroscience is available in the group of Associate Professor Koen Vervaeke: http://vervaeke-lab.org/. The laboratory is located at the Division of Physiology, Institute of Basic Medical Sciences (IMB), at the University of Oslo.
The project is funded by the National Research Council. The position is initially for a period of 2 years and available from October 1, 2018.
IMB pursues education and research to promote basic medical knowledge in order to understand normal processes, provide insight into mechanisms that cause illness, and promote good health. More information about the Institute and the research groups can be found here.
IMB has a strategic ambition of being a leading research institute. Candidates will be selected in accordance with this and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.
Description of the project and the position

The position is funded by the National Research Council to study the role of specific neuron types in the cortex.
The candidate will use in-vivo two-photon imaging and electrophysiology techniques to record neuronal activity, and optogenetic perturbations to identify cell-specific contributions to cortex function.
The main purpose of the fellowship is to qualify researchers for work in higher academic positions within their disciplines.
Qualifications
It is essential that candidates have a proven track record of publications in high impact neuroscience journals. The applicants should have experience with some of the following disciplines;
- Electrophysiology
- Microscopy
- Optogenetics
- Computational neuroscience
Experience with extracellular recordings (tetrode or silicon probes) is an advantage. The candidates should be handy and be comfortable to work with rodents. Good programming skills (eg. Matlab/LabVIEW), being critical, and being a team player, are a big plus.
