The Institute of Clinical Medicine (Klinmed) is one of three institutes under the Faculty. Klinmed is responsible for the Faculty's educational and research activities at Oslo University Hospital and Akershus University Hospital. With about 800 employees spread over approximately 425 man-labour years, Klinmed is the university's largest institute. Our activities follow the clinical activity at the hospitals and are spread across a number of geographical areas.

A position as Professor/ Associate Professor of Medicine (Paediatrics) is available at the Institute of Clinical Medicine, Division of Paediatric and Adolescent Medicine. The position is combined with a part-time (20 %) position as Senior Consultant at Oslo University Hospital within any of the clinical departments in the Division of Paediatric and Adolescent Medicine.

The Department of Paediatric Research including laboratory facilities is localized at the Oslo University Hospital, Rikshospitalet. Researchers from the clinical research groups within the Division of Paediatric and Adolescent Medicine perform their laboratory experiments in the department. The research activities relate to a broad specter of diseases in newborns, children and adolescents, including general and specialized paediatrics, neonatology, paediatric neurology and habilitation and rare disorders. Research support for the Division is an important task for the Department of Paediatric Research, including a planned broad research biobank within paediatrics and a clinical research unit.

According to the regulations at the Faculty of Medicine, the person appointed will lead and initiate research, supervise researchers, participate in teaching students and research fellows and undertake duties in connection with examinations, as well as undertaking administrative tasks as required by the prevailing regulations.

Qualification requirements and personal skills

  • The successful applicant must have a strong research background in experimental and clinical/ translational paediatrics.
  • Applicants should hold an MD and have sufficient experience in clinical paediatrics to teach medical students broadly within the major fields of paediatrics.
  • High ambitions and quality of teaching, research and communications is expected.
  • She or he should have the ability to build a research environment based on high scientific quality within an area of specific importance for the Division.
  • Applicants should have the ability to create an attractive and stimulating academic environment within the Department, be able to attract PhD students and postdocs, and have a keen ability to develop the discipline towards novel scientifically-based high standards in order to improve patient care.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to create an attractive research environment will be emphasised. Active collaboration, also interdisciplinary and internationally is expected.

Formal regulations

Applicants, who at the time of appointment cannot provide documentary evidence of basic teaching competence, must acquire such competence in the course of a period of three years.

Applicants who are not competent in Norwegian, Swedish or Danish must acquire such competence within two years subsequent to their appointment, and must be competent in English in the interim period.
