A permanent position is available at The Department of Special Needs Education, Faculty of Educational Sciences for an Associate Professor within the subject area of qualitative research and special needs education.

We are seeking candidates with qualifications in the use of qualitative methodology in special needs educational research. We will emphasize candidates’ competence in qualitative research, e.g. research design, methodological or epistemological issues, data collection methods (e.g. observation, interview, document analyses), and methods of data analysis. Candidates who can document knowledge of and research activity related to special needs education will be preferred. Candidates with backgrounds in related fields, e.g. education or psychology, are also encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate is expected to initiate and lead research, supervise PhD candidates, participate in teaching and in exam setting and assessment at all levels, and to carry out administrative duties in accordance with the needs of the Faculty of Educational Sciences.

Main duties:

  • promote the development of the subject area through research, publication of academic work nationally and internationally, and participation in national and international networks
  • active participation in relevant research groups at the faculty
  • participate in the planning of study programs, teaching, supervision and examinations as well as related tasks at any level
  • research dissemination targeted at both professional actors and the general public
  • administrative tasks in accordance with the applicable provisions
  • active participation in attracting research funding from external sources

Qualification requirements

  • PhD or equivalent academic qualifications relevant to qualitative research and special needs education or related fields
  • documented pedagogical skills
  • documented potential for project acquisition and project management
  • fluent oral and written communication skills in English and a Scandinavian language
  • personal suitability and motivation

Formal regulations

The successful candidate who at the time of appointment cannot document basic teaching qualifications will be required to obtain such qualifications within a two-year period.

The successful candidate must demonstrate mastery of both English and one of the Scandinavian languages as working languages. If an appointee is not fluent in a Scandinavian language, the appointee will be expected within a two-year period to learn sufficient Norwegian to be able to participate actively in all functions the position may involve.
