The Institute of Clinical Medicine (Klinmed) is one of three institutes under the Faculty. Klinmed is responsible for the Faculty's educational and research activities at Oslo University Hospital and Akershus University Hospital. With about 800 employees spread over approximately 425 man-labour years, Klinmed is the university's largest institute. Our activities follow the clinical activity at the hospitals and are spread across a number of geographical areas.


Oslo University Hospital is a highly specialized hospital in charge of extensive regional and local hospital assignments. As Scandinavia’s largest hospital, we carry out more than 1.2 million patient treatments each year. The hospital has a nationwide responsibility for a number of national and multiregional assignments, and has several national centers of competence. Oslo University Hospital is responsible for approximately 50 percent of all medical and health care research conducted at Norwegian hospitals, and plays a significant role within the education of a large variety of health care personnel.


Oslo University Hospital (OUH) is a regional hospital in the Norwegian Health Region South-East with a population of about 2.7 million.


Division of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine is located at all four main campuses comprising Oslo University Hospital: Aker Hospital, Radiumhospitalet, Rikshospitalet and Ullevål Hospital. Both the main position and the professorial position will be affiliated with the Department of Radiology, Rikshospitalet.

The Department has 51 consultants and 13 residents working in sections for abdominal radiology, thoracic-/ENT- and vascular radiology, angiographic and interventional radiology, neuroradiology, musculoskeletal radiology and pediatric radiology. Rikshospitalet is a tertially referral center of Health Region South-East, has several national treatment responsibilities, among these is all solid organ transplantation of Norway.

Research, development, and teaching are main focus areas at Division of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine.


Broad scientific experience, research competence and the ability to acquire external funding for own research projects in radiology are important qualifications and will be emphasized for this position. It is a goal for the Division to increase the number of self-initiated research studies.

Applicants must hold an MD, be a specialist in radiology and have research experience in radiology. Equally important are personal skills in collaborating with colleagues and in creating a research environment based on candour and respect.

The responsibilities of the Senior Consultant will include participating in multidisciplinary meetings and routine imaging. The applicants must be able to talk and write Norwegian, Swedish or Danish fluently as reporting and communication will be an important part of the daily work.

The main position (at the hospital) and the part time position (at the University) are combined and the candidate must therefore hold both positions. In case of granted temporary leave from the main position, the Head of Institute will evaluate whether the academic position can be continued.

Regarding the part time position:

The successful applicant is expected to have a strong research background in radiology as well as experience with integration of routine diagnostics and parallel research projects. The applicant should contribute actively in collaborative research projects by joining an established research group or forming an own research group after established criteria at OUH. Furthermore, the applicant is expected to have a keen ability to develop the discipline towards novel scientifically-based high standards in order to improve patient care.

The successful applicant will lead and initiate research, supervise PhD students, participate in the teaching of undergraduate and graduate students, accept duties related to examinations, as well as administrative responsibilities as required by regulations. The Faculty is responsible for teaching (including examinations) within the professional studies in medicine and dentistry and in the Faculty's bachelor and master programs. The Faculty is also responsible for providing organized research training.

Fluency in both written and spoken English is a prerequisite.

As a main rule, interviews will be held and references collected. Applicants may also be required to give a trial lecture.

Applicants, who at the time of appointment cannot provide documentary evidence of basic teaching expertise, must acquire such knowledge within the first two years of the appointment.
