The School of Pharmacy is responsible for the popular master's degree program in pharmacy and has 350 competent and committed students. Pharmaceutical related research and education forms the base of all activities at the School of Pharmacy. The science of pharmacy lies in the interface between the natural sciences, pharmaceutical technology, health related topics and social sciences. This interdisciplinarity is reflected both in our study programs and in our research.

Position as Postdoctoral Research Fellowship is available at Dept. of Pharmacy at the School of Pharmacy, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.

The fellowship will be for a period of 2 years. Starting date by September 2019 by the latest.

Job/project description

The candidate will be working on the ERC Starting Grant project “Effects of Medication Use in Pregnancy on Infant Neurodevelopment” (DrugsInPregnancy). The background for the project is the lack of knowledge about long term safety of prenatal exposure to medication. The aim of the project is to use causal inference methods to study associations between medication use during pregnancy and possible long-term neurodevelopment disorders in childhood. The epidemiological data consists of data from the Norwegian Mother and Child Cohort (MoBa) at the National Institute of Public Health linked to other national health registries. The project may also include analyses of epigenetic data from individuals from the MoBa-study.

The candidate will become part of the PharmacoEpidemiology and Drug Safety Research Group headed by Professor Nordeng at the School of Pharmacy, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Oslo. The project will be performed in close collaboration with international partners and partners at the National Institute of Public Health.

The candidate will also be included in the PharmaTox Strategic Research Initiative at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Oslo.PharmaTox is a multidisciplinary center comprising strong research environments in pharmaceutical bioscience, biology, bioinformatics and statistics.

The main purpose of post-doctoral research fellowships is to qualify researchers for work in top academic positions within their disciplines.

Qualification requirements

  • Applicants must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in epidemiology. Doctoral dissertation must be submitted for evaluation by the closing date. Appointment is dependent on the public defence of the doctoral thesis being approved.
  • The successful candidate must prove competence in epidemiology, biostatistics and good knowledge of statistical programs (e.g. STATA, R, SAS).
  • The preferred candidate possesses has experience with pharmacology, pharmacoepidemiology and handling large data sets.
  • Interest and experience with interdisciplinary work is an advantage.
  • Fluent oral and written communication skills in English
