A Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship (SKO 1352) is available at the Department of Cultural studies and Oriental languages (IKOS), University of Oslo. The position is associated with The Heritage Experience Initiative (HEI) and the working group E-Heritage

The Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship is funded by Faculty of Humanities, University of Oslo and is associated with The Heritage Experience Initiative (HEI). HEI is designated as a project of strategic priority by the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Oslo. The HEI-project runs from 2019-2023.

The candidate is expected to present a research project with clear relevance for the Heritage Experience Initiative (HEI), connected to the working group E-Heritage under the title Digital heritage and cultural history. We invite investigations on how digitization affects the production and circulation of heritage. Of specific interest are analyses of the use of virtual reality and social media in the heritage sector, in particular analyses that can be applied to the Norwegian heritage sector. This includes the consequences of such use and the new ways of interacting with the public. We encourage applicants who employ cultural historical perspectives to understand the impact of technological changes to apply.

The position is available for a period of 3 years. There is a 10 % component of the position which is devoted to teaching and administrative duties. These duties include obtaining basic teaching qualifications.

The successful candidate is expected to become part of the research environment/network of the department and contribute to its development. The main purpose of postdoctoral research fellowships is to qualify researchers for work in higher academic positions within their disciplines.

Qualification requirements

• PhD or equivalent academic qualifications with a specialization in cultural history, museology and heritage studies - or similar - relevant for the project.
• The candidate's research project must be closely connected to the main project
• Fluent oral and written communication skills in English. Working knowledge of Scandinavian language will be considered as an advantage as the successful candidate is expected to include Norwegian heritage sector in her/his research.
• Personal suitability and motivation for the position

The doctoral dissertation must be submitted for evaluation by the closing date. Appointment is dependent on the public defence of the doctoral thesis being approved.

In the evaluation of the applications, emphasis will be placed on:

• The project’s scientific merit, research-related relevance and innovation
• The applicant’s estimated academic and personal ability to carry out the project within the allotted time frame an contribute to the main project
• Good co-operative skills, and the ability to successfully join in academic collaboration within and across disciplines
