The Center for Research on Extremism (C-REX) is a cross-disciplinary center for the study of the extreme right, hate crime and political violence.

The center was established in early 2016 and is a joint collaboration with five of the leading Norwegian institutions and three of the leading international universities on extremism research. The research focuses on both ideological and behavioral aspects of the extreme right, hate crime and political violence. Geographically, the center mainly concentrates on Norway, the Nordic Region and Europe.

About the position

Applications are invited from excellent candidates in the Social Sciences, Humanities or Law interested in doing high quality research on right-wing extremism or hate crime, including topics such as violent mobilization, behavior and imaginaries, or support for undemocratic means and attitudes. Applicants must relate their project to one or several of the center’s research profile presented above (see also the center’s website). Moreover, the center is particularly interested in projects based upon quantitative data. In terms of geographical scope, the project should include one or several European countries.

The appointment is for a fixed, non-tenured term of 3 years. The appointee will have no teaching requirements.

Applicants must formulate a project description that lays out a promising research project that can be fulfilled in the course of three years.

Qualifications

A comprehensive assessment of the applicant's scientific qualifications forms the basis of appointment. Successful applicants must have handed in their PhD thesis for evaluation before the application deadline, and must have achieved a relevant PhD degree before taking up the post. Moreover, the candidate should demonstrate skills in quantitative methods. In assessing the applications, special emphasis will be placed on the quality of the project description. Emphasis will also be given to the applicants' qualifications, teamwork skills and personal suitability for the position.
