At the centre of excellence Norwegian Centre for Mental Disorders Research (NORMENT) (https://www.med.uio.no/norment/english/ ), there is a postdoctoral fellowship position accessible (government position code 1352). A three-year term position as Postdoctoral Research Fellow is available at the NORMENT– TOP Study Group, Institute of Clinical Medicine, University of Oslo and Oslo University Hospital, Oslo, Norway.

The postdoctoral fellow will play a central role in the analysis and dissemination of data obtained at EEG- and MRI-investigations in combination with data obtained from several other domains in patients with severe mental illness and healthy controls. In addition to EEG and MRI measures, individual data is available based on clinical interviews, neuropsychological tests, genetic analysis, pharmacological investigations, serum assays of intrinsic substances, and stem cell derived data.

It is expected that the postdoctoral fellow will focus on the relationships between MRI-derived measures of brain myelination and different EEG-derived electrophysiological aspects in connection to psychotic symptomatology.

The research will be carried out as part of a cross-disciplinary team of researchers in the Translational Multimodal MRI and Structural MRI groups of the center at NORMENT in collaboration with researchers at the University of California, San Francisco, and Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences, Leipzig.

NORMENT coordinates a translational multicenter study involving all psychiatric hospital departments in Oslo and several research groups at the University of Oslo. The main purpose of the research is to disentangle and characterize the neurobiological, genetic, psychological and environmental factors contributing to the development of severe mental disorders. Through our extensive infrastructure for clinical evaluations, neuropsychological testing, MRI brain imaging and biobanking we are assembling a comprehensive database comprising clinical, brain imaging and genetic data from a large number of healthy controls and patients suffering from psychotic disorders including schizophrenia and bipolar disorders.

The main purpose of post-doctoral research fellowships is to qualify researchers for work in top academic positions within their disciplines.

Qualification requirements

• Holds a PhD in electrophysiology, neuroimaging, molecular genetics, bioinformatics, psychiatry or equivalent
• Has a strong background and interest in electrophysiology, statistics and psychiatry, and an excellent publication record
• Has experience and expertise in coordinating multi-site studies and large scale data-analysis
• Is ambitious and highly motivated for pursuing a career in science
• Excellent command of oral and written English language. Norwegian is beneficial
• Excellent personal and collaborative skills
• An MD degree or background in psychology is preferable
