The Faculty of Theology at the University of Oslo has a total of 68 staff and ca. 350 students. The faculty conducts research in the fields of biblical studies, church history, systematic theology, practical theology, diaconal and interreligious studies and offers programmes for the theological education for clerical ministry as well as a number of other academic study programmes within the field of religion.

Applications are invited for up to two 3 year positions as Postdoctoral Fellow to be based at the Faculty of Theology, University of Oslo.

More about the position

The appointment is a fulltime position, 10% of which is devoted to required duties, usually in the form of teaching activities.

The main purpose of the fellowship is to qualify researchers for work in higher academic positions within their disciplines.

Applicants are asked to develop a focused research project with clear aims and research questions, and an appropriate methodological approach. The postdoctoral project should be well positioned in the international research field, and novelty in methodological approaches is a strength.

Experience in international publishing of high quality in the relevant research field is an advantage, as is international research experience. The successful candidate has the ability to conduct independent research of high quality, while at the same time taking an interest in collaborating with colleagues and contributing to the further development of one or more of the research groups at the Faculty.

The position offers good opportunities for advancing an internationally oriented research career. A research stay abroad during the employment period is expected, but relative to funding available.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in the relevant field. Doctoral dissertation must be submitted for evaluation by the closing date. Appointment is dependent on the public defence of the doctoral thesis being approved.

  • CV (summarizing education, positions, pedagogical experience, administrative experience and other qualifying activity)

  • a complete list of publications
  • x numbers of academic works that the applicant wishes to be considered
  • list of reference persons: 2-3 references (name, relation to candidate, e-mail and phone number)

In assessing the applications, special emphasis will be placed on the documented, academic qualifications, the project description (whenever this is required in the call for applicants), and the quality of the project as well as the candidates motivation and personal suitability. Interviews with the best qualified candidates will be arranged.It is expected that the successful candidate will be able to complete the project in the course of the period of employment.
