About the positions
The Department of Political Science hereby announces two vacant positions as PhD Research Fellow. The persons appointed may choose between a three year-appointment with no teaching requirement, or an appointment for a period of four years with a 25 per cent teaching requirement. In the Department of Political Science teaching is organized into five sections: public policy and administration, comparative politics, political theory, international politics, and research methods. Candidates will be part of the Faculty's PhD programme and the work performed will be expected to lead to a PhD in Political Science.
Qualifications
To be appointed to the position, the successful candidates must have a Master’s degree (120 ECTS) in Political Science. The Master’s degree must include a thesis of at least 30 ECTS, and training in research methodology. In evaluating applications, academic qualifications and the project outline will be given more weight than other disciplinary and general qualifications.
Successful candidates must document top grades and an MA Thesis of the highest quality. Personal suitability will also be an important factor. Short-listed applicants may be called for interview.
Applicants must submit a project description of up to 3000 words outlining the research topic, the specific problems to be studied, the sources of data to be used, the choice of scientific theory and method, and a realistic schedule that details how the project will be completed within the fellowship period.

- Copies of transcripts: All applicants must submit their Master’s degree Diploma and transcript(s), preferably together with a class distribution of grades. The transcript must specify the grade achieved on the Master’s thesis.
- Official explanation of the grading and credit system at your university, translated into ECTS-credits.
- a complete list of publications and academic works that the applicant wishes to be considered by the evaluation committee
- list of reference persons: 2-3 references (name, relation to candidate, e-mail and phone number)

About the evaluation process
An application committee will review the applications before the top candidates are further assessed by an evaluation committee. The evaluation committee’s report is expected to be ready by 30 November. The report will be sent to all applicants. The most promising candidates will then be called for interview. The interviews are expected to take place in December. The departmental board will then make its final decision in January.

With reference to Section 1-3 (1) of the Regulations, the Ministry of Education and Research has confirmed that a person who has obtained a doctor's degree in a specific field cannot be appointed again to a position aimed at carrying out a doctoral programme in the same field.
According to the Norwegian Freedom and Information Act (Offentleglova) information about the applicant may be included in the public applicant list, also in cases where the applicant has requested non-disclosure.
The appointment may be shortened/given a more limited scope within the framework of the applicable guidelines on account of any previous employment in academic positions.
