The Department of Psychology is one of seven units of the Faculty of Social Sciences, and has 75 permanent and 70 temporary members of scientific staff. Degrees are offered at bachelor and master level, plus a clinical training programme, and the PhD programme has 140 students.

The Department of Psychology has two available positions as PhD Fellow in Developmental Psychology at the University of Oslo.

The PhD fellows will work within the project "The Development of Understanding of Insight and Aha-experiences", funded by the FRIPRO-program of the Norwegian Research Council. Each fellow will be responsible for the implementation of one of the subprojects. There will also be room to implement own ideas.

The project is led by Professor Rolf Reber in collaboration with Professor Francisco Pons and Associate Professor Evalill Bølstad Karevold, all from the Department of Psychology, University of Oslo.

The project description can be downloaded here. Within each subproject, the Doctoral Fellow will plan, conduct, and analyse experimental studies to examine the understanding of Aha-experiences in children. Some assistance can be provided for data collection.

More about the position

The fellowship period is up to 4 years, with 3 years devoted to research education. A 4-year position entails a compulsory work load of 25% that consists of teaching and supervision duties and research assistance. Ealiest startingdate: 1st January 2020.

The research fellow must take part in the Faculty’s approved PhD programme and is expected to complete the project within the set fellowship period. The main purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree.

Qualification requirements

  • Applicants must hold a two-year master degree or equivalent degree in developmental psychology or an adjacent field (e.g., social, cognitive, or educational psychology; education) with a thesis applying quantitative methods. The grade of the master thesis (minimum 30 ECTS) must be minimum grade B.
  • Plans for high-quality research within the project, as evidenced by the one- to three-page proposal to implement the project
  • Knowledge of experimental design and statistical methods is required
  • Scientific publications, conference presentations and experience as research assistant, especially within developmental psychology are an advantage
  • Teaching experience is an advantage
  • Fluent oral and written communication skills in English are required
  • Working knowledge of a Scandinavian language, preferably Norwegian, is required.
