We are experiencing increased interest for our expertise and are currently strengthening our team with professional and dedicated researchers (all levels). The successful candidate will join the Department of Mathematics and Cybernetics and one of the groups "Analytics and Artificial Intelligence" or "Optimization" in Oslo.

We do research on the application of machine learning and optimization for Norwegian industry and public sector as part of Department of Mathematics and Cybernetics at SINTEF Digital. As team member in our dynamic groups, you will be included in a large network within SINTEF's different institutes and be exposed to applications from many different domains and industries.

We are specifically hiring for a large research project with major companies in the Norwegian process industry:

2 PhD scholarships (Analytics & Artificial Intelligence)

As a PhD candidate, you will be working with data-driven methods in the process industries with particular focus on combining physical modelling/control and machine learning. One of the PhDs will focus on explainable AI and stability analysis, while the other will focus on data requirements.

The 3-year scholarships are in collaboration with the Dept. of Engineering Cybernetics at NTNU (Trondheim) and SINTEF (Oslo). It could also be possible to do an integrated master and PhD.

1 postdoc scholarship (Analytics & Artificial Intelligence)

As part of the same project, we offer a postdoc position over 2 years on combining data-driven and model-based methods in the control loop (Oslo).

Researchers (one or more in Analytics & Artificial Intelligence and Optimization)

In addition, we are looking to strengthen our teams with one or more researchers (permanent position). You will conduct a mixture of contract-based and strategic research, write proposals, be involved in project management, client contacts, etc. We are in particular looking for researchers with interest in programming. The successful candidate should be experienced in object-oriented programming, and program development in teams.

We encourage candidates with Master or PhD degree to apply.

Desired expertise and skills:

  • Master/doctoral degree in mathematics, cybernetics, statistics, algorithm design, physics, computer science, optimization, etc.
  • Research experience in field of machine learning, data analytics, optimization or relevant similar subjects
  • Good knowledge of Python or C#, additional programming languages are an advantage
  • Experience from industry is an advantage
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work and communicate well with clients and collaborators
  • Strong academic track record/publication record (postdoc and researcher with PhD)
  • Experience in research proposal writing (postdoc and researcher)
